Schaefer Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy ' Executive Officer, USS Gary CFFG 545 A Lieutenant Commander Schaefer received his commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Missouri, Columbia. ' His sea duty assignments have included service aboard USS LANG CFF 40605 as Communications Officer and USS CORAL SEA CCV 435 as Main Engines Officer. He has served as Operations Officer aboard the USS VALDEZ CFF 40965 and USS CALIFORNIA CCGN 365. In May 4988 he became Executive Officer of the USS GARY CFFG 545. Shore duty consisted of assignment as Senior Staff Officer, Surface Operations for the Commander Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific, and post graduate education at the Post Graduate School, Monte- rey, California. Lieutenant Commander Schaefer's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign, service and unit awards.
