Robert Lee Moon Commander, United States Navy Executive Officer, USS GARY QFFG 515 Commander Moon is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas. After attending one year at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, entering in June 4968. Immediately upon graduation in June, 4972 Commander Moon reported to USS BOULDER CLST 44903 in Little Creek, Virginia, where he served as Gunnery Officer, Second Division Officer, and Navigator from 4972-4974. He then reported to USS SAMPSON CDDG-405, homeported in Athens Greece as part of the overseas homeporting project, as Fire Control Officer from 4974-4976. After a brief tour as Weapons Officer on USS RICHARD L. PAGE QFFG-55, he attended Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island. Commander Moon then reported as Engineer Officer of the USS KIRK CPF-40875, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. Following that two year tour he was assigned as Material Officer on the Staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron FIFTEEN, also homeported in Yokosuka. Departing sea duty in July 4984, Commander Moon reported to Anti-Air Warfare Division of the Naval Warfare Directorate COP-955, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, where he served as Surface Launched Missile Systems Officer. ln October of 4984 Commander Moon reported as Combat Systems Officer on the Staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group FIVE. He began his present tour as Executive Officer aboard USS GARY CFFG-545 in June. 4986. Schaefer Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy ' Executive Officer, USS Gary CFFG 545 A Lieutenant Commander Schaefer received his commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Missouri, Columbia. ' His sea duty assignments have included service aboard USS LANG CFF 40605 as Communications Officer and USS CORAL SEA CCV 435 as Main Engines Officer. He has served as Operations Officer aboard the USS VALDEZ CFF 40965 and USS CALIFORNIA CCGN 365. In May 4988 he became Executive Officer of the USS GARY CFFG 545. Shore duty consisted of assignment as Senior Staff Officer, Surface Operations for the Commander Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific, and post graduate education at the Post Graduate School, Monte- rey, California. Lieutenant Commander Schaefer's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign, service and unit awards.
