Students Practice Self Expression Crime and Punishment , poetry analysis, and term papers on the ' Arts ' , merged in Senior Composition class . Senior World Literature students pre- sented plays on the elements of tragedy. They also interpreted poetry orally, and did collages on protest . Juniors composed themes for the Rotary Cluh speech contest. They discussed Hamlet , and reviewed the fundamentals of grammar . One theme a week was required of Sophomore students . They read several short stories and traced the history of American Literature . Freshmen used the SRA kit to improve reading. They ob- served T . V . programs and dis - cussed the relationship between the programs and their lives . « i%-r. Composition students busy themselves. Cadet Teachers Gain Know How A second semester course in Cadet Teaching had 17 seniors spending two periods a day with grade school and Junior High students . The seniors observed and experienced the students at work in their classes and dur- ing recesses . On Monday morn- ings, the seniors discussed the behavior of the students in an effort to understand and pre- pare themselves for possible careers in teaching. They were placed in classes including Spe- cial Education, Physical Educa- tion, Music, Library, and regular classes on a preference basis. They also became ac- quainted with the non-grading system established in the J . E . Ober School this past year . Cadet Teacher, JoAnn Worman, plays the autoharp for her Music class. Tapes, Posters Tie GHS to Spain HOEiniOt VECIHOt Denny Costin reports on the customs and activities of the Spanish people. Sophomores, in Miss Haynes ' class, strengthen their vocabulary in group practice. Robin Lang, Terry Bowman, and Judy Van Holten practice pronunciation and gram- mar with the use of tapes. RIGHT: Jody Witherspoon memorizes phrases. Fifty-two students were en- rolled in the first three years of Spanish. With the aid of tapes, first year students created a working vocabulary, and learned at least three tenses . The other years were a continuation of the first year with the addition of literature and history .
