New Modern Math Baffles Students, Rita Dresser, Sharon Coyer, and Steven Treesh listen as Yogi Carpenter explains a phase of modern math. Cossettee Kearns explains a geometric theorem to members of the sophomore geometry class. This was the year that the math department was revised. Modern math was introduced throughout the school system. Students began to work in bases, use new symbols, and to approach math with a new outlook. The math books had the appearance of literature books in¬ stead of their traditional appear¬ ance . Students have a choice of study¬ ing math on the academic level geared for the college-bound stu¬ dent or practical math intended for those who do not plan to continue their education beyond high school.
