Miss DeKalb County, Cathy Barcus, smiles from her float in the parade at the County Fair. Baseball games, swimming, and casual dates were all a part of summer 1965 in Garrett, Indiana. The highlight of the summer was the crowning of Miss Garrett during the annual Sidewalk Days. The beginning of school was mixed with new faces and unchanging traditions. Foot¬ ball games were of prime importance during the first two months of school. The conference crown, the Auburn Game, and many spirited pep rallies are memories of this season. At the County Fair Miss Garrett, Cathy Barcus, was chosen Miss DeKalb County, and Cyndy Brechbill reigned as 4-H Queen. The annual Magazine Drive was a suc¬ cess, as the goal of $3, 500 was sur¬ mounted . As Teachers ' Institute approached and students eagerly anticipated a vacation, it was plain to see that this year was off to a wonderful start. Sidewalk Days, Fun Highlight Summer Denny Feagler comes up for air during a swim meet at the Garrett pool on the Fourth of July. Miss Garrett and her court included Nancy Capin, Kathy Campbell, Becky Schurr, Claudia Miller, Janice Casey, Miss Garrett 1965; Gathy Barcus, Miss Garrett 1966; Kay McKee, Cindy Lewis, Mary Lynn Neukom, and Tina Lung. 6 ■

Chairman of the Magazine Ikive, Steve Mulligan, records the sales of each class during the annual Magazine Ikive, sponsored by the Student Ojuncil. Every GHS’er has to make decision. It is especially hard for eighth grader Debbie Andrews, as she de¬ cides what books she will need from her locker to begin tlie day. Dave Yarde displays his prize-winning steer at the Auburn Fair.
