fellowshrp project The annual banquet was attended by 72 members and therr mothers No xember 29 Mrs James Mathews was guest speaker HIY The Hr Y Club of GHS consisted of 45 members An assembly was pre sented by the group on May 4 for the entertarnment of the students On the 19th of Aprrl the annual Father Son banquet was held Educatronal frlms and guest speakers furnrsh d the majorrty of the programs Offrcers of the club are presrdent Stanley Mrles vrce presrdent Charles Holmes secretary Charles Holloran treasurer Clyde Hulett program chalrman Lee Mrller Brble charrman Larry Mowat sergeant at arms Lar ry Frew Mr Wayne K Sprrnger was the club sponsor MADRIGALS The madrrgals were organrzed and drrected by Mrs Lucrlle Lacy for the frrst year It rs very srmrlar to last years modern chorale only a smaller group than chorale It rs an honorary group of 14 chosen from the glee clubs This organrzatron recerved a II ratmg at Emporra BOYS GLEE CLUB Srxty boys enrolled rn boys glee club last fall wrth Mrs Howard Lacy as 1n structor The boys sang at the Chrrst mas program and the vocal assembly They attended the League Festrval at Yates Center and 49 the drstrrct contest at Emporra where they re cerved a II plus ratrng BOYS SEXTETTE The boys sextette have sung to gether srnce they were lowly fresh men Now senrors they look back on four years of successful srngrng However a farther look can be taken by three of the srx as Stanley Mrles John Coleman and John Barr sang together on varrous occasrons whrle rn grade school Upon enterrng hrgh school the vorces of Rrchard Krtterman James Thomas and Jack Knouse were added Under the drrectron of Mrs Howard Lacy this blend of vorces has earned for themselves and therr school hrgh honors wrth second ratrngs at drstrrct muslc contests rn therr freshman and sophomore years and frrst ratrngs as junrors and senrors A second rat rng was recerved last year and they attended the state contest agarn thrs year recervrng a I ratmg Contests alone drdn t make up therr srngmg trme these radro programs assemblres and varrous other pro grams have certarnly left a favorable mark rn Garnett Hrgh School that wrll be long remembered GIRLS GLEE CLUB Mrs Howard Lacy drrected the grrl glee club thrs year The offrcer dent Janet Whrteford vrce presrdent Myrna Schulte secretary trea urer The members went to Yates Center for the musrc festrval and to Emporra to the drstrrct festrval contcs th y recerved a second place ratrng Meet mgs are held every Monday and Wed nesday of each durrng the thrrd per od In the sprrng the grrls gave a tea and presented a program rnvrtrng therr mothers aS guests PEP CLUB The offrcers of thrs year s pep club are Rrta Coppenbarger presrdent Julrann Foltz vrce presrdent Conme Howerton secretary Eulalah Dudley treasurer and Mrss Donna Lmcoln sponsor Connre Howerton Deanna Baker Mryna Schulte Zella Smerchek and Sharr Lee Wrlson led the all glrl pep club at all the games Karen Ras mussen was the alternate cheerleader The cheerleaders wore whrte pleated skrrts red sweaters wrth whrte let ters and whrte bucks Each of the frve grrls had a megaphone wrth her name prrnted on rt The pep club unrforms were red skrrts and whrte sweaters wrth a red bulldog On March 23 1956 the pep club had a. plald and callco dance for the athletrc boys Musrc was furnrshed by an orchestra from Ottawa HIGH scHooL TIMES 116 S'lUDENT COUNCIL Student councrl rs a member of the Natronal Assocratron of Student coun c1ls It rs the governing body of the students of the school Two councrl members are crosen by each of the four classes The Hr Y Y Teens Pep Club FFA and FHA organrzatrons elect one member for each The presrdents of the fresh man sophomore junror and senror classes are automatrcally members Thrs makes a total of 17 Some of the projects sponsored by the councrl were homecomrng elec tron of Krng and Queen and the all school mrxer The councrl gave a plaque to the group grvrng the best assembly Two of then major projects vsere berng hosts at open house nrght dur mg Amerrcan Educatron Week anl Erghth Grade Day Presrdent of the councrl was I e Mrller vrce presrdent orrgrnated on Aprrl 10 1926 and the Hazel K Pullman chapter of Garnett was started rn 1929 The local chapter has 274 mem bers FHA Future Homemakers of Amerrca rs an organrzatron open to all grrls who are erther takrng homemakrng or have had lt durrng hrgh school The club met once a month dur mg thrrd hour perrod wrth Zella Smerchek presrdrng as presrdent Barbara Mack lrn vrce presrdent Kathryn Ann Srmpson secretary Mary Ann Foltz treasurer The actrvrtres of the year rncluded a work day State FHA meetrng and conference both held at Topeka an nual FHA dance decoratrng the school burldrng at
