Varsity Cheerleaders Throughout the football and basketball seasons, the Varsity Cheerleaders worked long hours perfecting their skill, timing, and poise. The result was one of the best cheerleading squads in Garner's history. These girls generated enthusiasm and school spirit and served as an inspi- ration to the entire student body. Varsity Basketball The Garner High School basketball team closed out its final season in the Class 2-A di- vision in the finest fashion. The team, built on an adequate amount of returning experience, and the development of several new players, marched through twenty games undefeated for the first time in the school's history. Under the leader- ship of Coach Sherrill Johnson, in his third sea- son as head coach, the Rams then continued to coast through the Conference tournament and be- came the first team in this conference to be both regular season and post season tournament cham- pions for two consecutive years. After their third victory over arch rival Cary in the tournament finals, the Rams continued their bid to return to Winston-Salem in the District III Tournament with the optimistic hopes of the stu- dent body riding with them.
