lliifatnrg Thirteen long years ago in September 1952, we as 24 bashful youngsters slowly walked up the stairs of the Garner Grade School to begin our school days. Now, as seniors, we look back on those days with laughter, thoughtfulness, gaity and in some cases regret. Those that enrolled under Miss Goll that year were: Eunice Armstrong, Norma Jean Boland,Bill Brugman,Vita May Christians, Melvin Daniels, Kay Elling, Delores Erickson, Ollie Gaines, Betty Greiman, Laurel Hammon, Gerhardt Harmdirks, De Etta Haskins, Alice Megrew, Roberta Olsen, Dorothy Quintus, Betty Reibe, James Reinig, Ruth Rice, Patricia Steinberg, Gordon Specht, and Dorothy Young. In first grade, under the direction of Miss Brannon,Ed- ward Daniels, Bernard Dankbar, Betty Lou Schmidt, and Gene Katter entered our ranks. This year we all became members of the Rhythm Band, under the direction of the music teacher. We were under the direction of Miss Woodward in the second grade. Anthony Hauptman, Frank Flores, Donald and Dorance Knoke, Adair Bakken, and Billy Hahn entered our class. We studied animals that year. We all brought ants to school in glass jars to study their actions. Miss Woodward stayed with us in the third grade also. Billy Dean Mallinger, Evelyn Jacobson, and Charlene Sonquist entered. During the third year we enjoyed the story hour when Miss Woodward read us nMiss Perkins'sn stories. In fourth grade which was under the direction of Miss Becker, Arvil Stille entered our class. HSleepy Hollown was the favorite book of our class that year. A thrill to all was when we moved to the upper floor in the Grade School. We had Miss Donelson this year. Harry Diekhuis, Luvern Tanner, and Frances Stokesbary came to us. As we entered the departments of Junior High we found we had three teachers: Miss Mackey, Miss Hanson, and Mr. Tompkins, With Miss Mackey to supervise our sixth grade work a new member entered our ranksgthis being Warren Beers. Miss Hanson left in the seventh grade and Miss Collins entered. It was a memorable year for the girls as they explored the attic of the Grade School. They found many interesting things until they were discovered. In the eighth grade we had the same instructors and the new students were: Maxine Johnson and Norma Jean Whitmore. We indulged in declamatory work and after passing our exams advanced to High School.

We find ourselves ascending another flight of stairs to knowledge upon receiving our diplomas from grade school. The students who started together in High School are: Warren Beers, Marilyn Boehnke, Nova Chesnut, Bernard Dankbar, Harry Diekhuis, Delores Erickson, Kay Elling, Doris Fread, Ollie Gaines,Betty Jean Greiman,Marjorie Greiman,Judith Haberkamp, Doris Haes, Orville Hall, Laurel Hammon, Maxine Johnson, Anna Mae Juhl,Gene Katter,Donald Knoke,Dorance Knoke,Roberta Olsen, Dorothy Quintus, Warren Rasmus, Wayne Rasmus, James Reinig, Ruth Rice, Donald Richards, Betty Schmidt, Charlene Sonquist, Gordon Specht,Arvil Stille, Pat Steinberg, Frances Stokesbary, Hildreth Tlach, Betty Reibe, Norma Whitmore, and Rachel Matz. X In our Freshmen year we elected President, Kay Ellingg Vice President, Laurel Hammong Secretary and. Treasurer, Delores Erickson, and Student Council member, Pat Steinberg. One of the unpleasant memories of our Freshmen year wasthe initiation but our miseries were retaliated when we initiated the Freshmen in our Sophomore year. Our Sophomore class officers were: President, Dorance Knoke5Vice President, Gordon Specht3Secretary and Treasurer, Jimmy Reinigg and Student Council member, Gwen Kirchner. Due to lack of credits Dorance Knoke was unable to serve as President and for this reason Gordon Specht was acting President during the year. Our third step to knowledge provided excitement for us. We gave our first class play entitled WThe Youngest Professionn. We entertained the seniors at a Junior-Senior banquet in which the theme Wred and whiteu was carried out.t Our officers were: President, Kay Ellingg Vice President, Arvil Stilleg Secretary and Treasurer, Dorothy Quintusj and Student Council member, Marjorie Greiman. Joe Carlson, Elexine Schneider, and Willard Romp entered our class. In our final step of knowledge in high school we elected the following class officers: President, Gordon Specht3Vice President,Arvil Stilleg Secretary and Treasurer, Gwen Kirchner, and Student Council member, Bette Reibe. We were entertained at a prom given by the Juniors and gave a class play this year. As we look back on the ws lvl! years we find that we have only startedl on Q' ff the steps to knowledge. Our class motto, Wlearn to do by doing,N 'will aid us aevwi X.x toward our individual goals. ' We think A it onlyf propera to give re- cognition sto those ,boys who left our class for service. Those boys being, Willard Romp, Donald and Dorance Knoke, Warren Beers, and Ollie Gaines. We wish them luck and success! 1 t . i continue advancing -up the steps of knowledge, ,I r A lx
