Gleaner Editor ' s Message The Gleaner represents people, their personalities and ideas. We have tried to represent the students and faculty of Garfield, not in a cold mechanical way, but in, I hope, a warm and personal manner. We have also tried to add freshness and creativity to the first an- nual Gleaner while keeping some traditionalism at the same time. Naturally we have encountered many frustrations and setbacks, but I feel certain that we have been successful in preserving some of the best memories of our lives. There are many who deserve credit for their role in the Gleaner ' s production but there are a few who have been essential: Mr. Hughes, faculty advisor, whose guidance and good sense have kept us on the right track; Juanita Moran, co-editor, whose perfectionistic attitude has helped greatly; Tom Haugen, whose persistence is greatly ap- preciated; Suzi Schevill for her ceaseless devotion; Alan Bern for his inspirational wit and personality; and staff editors: Bob Garrett, Sherry Haasarud, Sue Rosen, and Peter Kerman. To these people and to all who have made the Gleaner a success, let me say thank you. It has been an experience I shall never forget. Ron Nestor RON NESTOR Gleaner Editor JUANITA MORAN Gleaner Co-editor Spring President ' s Message On behalf of our graduating class of Spring 1964, I wish to express my deep gratitude for the helpful guidance of Mr. Boehmert, Mrs. Bower, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Rowe, Mrs. White, and the rest of Garfield ' s fine faculty. The knowledge and wisdom which they have passed on to us over the past three years has done a great deal to shape us into intelligent and respon- sible citizens. We take pride in our record at Garfield and are honored that we could attend such a fine school. As we move on to Berkeley High and later to college, we will always remember Garfield as preparing us in the best possible way for the challenges of life in the future. I would like to wish the members of our graduating class the best of luck at Berkeley High and in the years afterwards.
