CLASS HA TRACK I I-IE Garfield tracksters had a fairly successful season with four victories and one defeat in the dual meets and they took third place in Northern League finals with 3522 points while Lincoln took first: Belmont, second: Franklin, fourth: Roosevelt. lifthg and Marshall was last. Cazares made a new school record in the mile with the fast time of -1:3-1.1. Ivy Bledsoe made a new Northern League record in the high hurdles with the time of 15.2 and a new school record in the low hurdles in 15 flat. Beginning the season against Belmont, the Bulldogs were defeated by a strong Belmont squail 61 1 5- 42 2 3, but they white-washed their next opponents hy taking nine first places and defeated Marshall 79-25. Holden added 5 inches to Garfield's pole vault record hy soaring 12 feet 5 inches. Continuing its victories. Garfield met and defeated the Franklin squad 6-1 2 5 to S9 1 5. Al Holden hettered his mark of the week hefore by iumping 12 feet 9 inches. a new record. Art Cazares ran a fast mile in -i:3H.5. Bor' ATHLETIC-S Held defeated its traditional enemy, Roosevelt, 54 1, 5- 49 2 3. Ivy Bledsoe, ace hurdler, continued his winning streak by taking both the high and low hurdles. CLASS B TRACK HE Bullpups had a very successful season. They enjoyed a clean sweep with Eve victories in dual meet rating and scored 39 points to take second in the Northern League finals. Bennie Neil broke the Southern California record in the high hurdles with 9.2 and made a new school record in the low hurdles with 13.2. The Lightweights started their dual meets by de- feating a strong Belmont squad 49-46. By capturing six first places the following week they garnered 502 points to Marshall's 442. Continuing their vic- tories by making a clean sweep in seven events, the lightweights completely over-whelmed the Franklin Bees by a score of 87-8. In the next meet, the Bull- pups scored a 502,-44M victory over the Lincoln lightweights. The relay was won by Garfield in the fast time of 1 minute 12.2 seconds.
