SCHOOL LIFE SUNSET TIME IN SVVITZERLAND The golden rays of sunshine hide Behind a lofty mountain side, The herd-boy and his goats have gone. The shadows creep and then grow long. An echo is heard somewhere in the west Calling the people home to rest, The mountain eagle home does fly Racing the vanishing sun in the sky. Quiet are these mountain heights While far below the village lights Twinkle in the silent air As darkness settles everywhere. A lonely echo sounds afar, And with it comes the evening star The echo grows then dies away, Dies with the light of the dying day. Lonely? well, it may be so But not for me, because I know, That I feel nearer to the sky And God who rules all things on high A DOG-GONE FRIEND Vv'hen speaking of friends I wish to remark I have a dog that's a cute little spark. She's brown as a walnut and pert as you please. fl-Ier back is the playground for villainous fleasj. Her wide ears point to the blue skies above. She has a big mouth that slobbers her undying love. And a tail that's all crooked but just her right size. Energy burns in her two snappy eyes. The roof is the limit her gratitude knows. She's ready to mangle the worst of my foes. She mingles with vigor in each joy and strife. She's a fr.iend of the best though she leads a dog's lifel -Lillian Sessions 4? it 'll Ill ENTERTAINMENT 41+ 'I'ln- 1'x'itiv . 12h and lily NVorlrl Fri.-nrlship l'Ilitvrtainmt-nt. la-ft to rirzlll: Iiwtty Jam- Ellis, Ilvlt-n Young. 443 Musit-al l'rogran1. 131 May Mortt-nson. The music soothes away all my bad nat- ure and my sadness when I feel blue. Any bad mood of mine can always be dissolved in the liquid melody of a line symphony. I lose myself in the intricacies of the music and am carried away by its sheer beauty. Music suggests to me everything that is line and makes sorrows and the discords of life seem wholly in the past. The future spreads ahead unblemished and promisingly bright. Yes, music is balm for the soul. At other times a book is the best company. Often I can find some fine philosophy that will brighten life for me and make me feel that, after all, everything will turn out for the best. I have decided that to be alone with my thoughts is often much better than to make others miserable by my bad moods. It makes it possible for my life to be more harmonious. I can unravel the tangles in my own affairs if I think over the solution of my problems alone. After being alone for a while, I can emerge from my solitude ready to laugh at life's minor tragedies and take them on the chin. Then the company of other people is really a pleasure and a treat. If you find yourself irritable and moody and too ready to find fault, go off by yourself. You will soon stop ranting and raging if you have no audience. Listen to some fine music, read something worth- while, then see how much more you'll appreciate and enioy life. -AUDREY Fiusistu
