WW' ourage impelled each man in his quest for adventure The base lay pliant line of dogs did not always skim lightly over hard crystal surfaces Perilous footings hidden chasms concealed by a than crust of snow made hazardous escapes a part of the yob Flying at the home of the blizzard re quired courage Then there were changes in temperature and such high wind velocity as to make flying a risk at any time GBM flying and trail blazing were not the only de mands for courage The men who remained at the base in Little America were courageously completing tasks against odds The mechan ics' hands were seared and bleeding from work on cold metal. The meteorologists and physicists suffered exposure to obtain peri- odic readings. The photographers had a hard struggle to keep the cameras in condition.
