'N permeated the spirit of the venture and were vital to its success A breaking of morale in one man would affect the entire expedition There was no discipline to enforce coopera tion nor any punishment for desertion Loyalty was the binding force All were loyal to a leader who was loyal to his followers When one of the men fell into the icy waters of the Bay of Whales Admiral Byrd was the first overboard to his rescue The men were loyal to the purpose of the expedition and gave eager and unselflsh service indifferent of rank or social position CIA fine spirit of co operation infused the party. Those who worked at camp, whose only share in the exploration was to make careful prepara- tions, felt a responsibility for its success. They gave their sincere and whole- hearted support to the fortunate participators. w'+f,l Q-9 o-operation and loyalty
