XVho knows, eventually security will only have to usecurei' the building rather than the people in it? Nutrition and good cooking is whats on the minds of Ckl1'fi6lLl'S cooking staff. This year four varieties of meals were provided for the students, and thc staff spends many hours preparing for these meals. Though the custodians are often ig- nored, their presence always shows. The clean walls, and waxed floors show that they are constantly on the job. But cleaning the school isn't all the custo- dians do. They also perform maintenance re- pairs such as changing light bulbs, set- ting clocks, and repairing lockers. They may be ignored, but they are also indispensable. They have proved themselves to be a very important part of our school. The newly built Learning Resource Center is in full gear this year. It's a bet- ter atmosphere to study in: more mate- rials for research and the students have been more serious and academically minded in their use of the school li- brary. The lihrarians feel if the students can continue to take care of the library it will remain an outstanding facility for study. Clarence Acox Music Dept. E The first Seattle school strike in history and the great turnover in staff didn't exactly help to get school off to a smooth start, but the ad- ministration staff worked hard to get it all to- gether. They faced obstacles such as changes in the laws regarding student funds, making planning for activities difficult, and having to do last minute rescheduling because of changes in staff size. But in spite of all this, the administration got school going on the right track and this year proved to be one of the best. Along with the new teachers this year came a few new subjects! Picketing! Bargaining! and Negotiating! Usually the students would have been in class the first two weeks, but this year the school district was. The teachers re- quired much testing of them and they finally passed with Hying colors. After that the teachers began teaching the students and they've done a great job. i Our secretaries are a very important part of our school. They do everything from keeping memos and typing to making sure that all ath- letes are eligible to play. They also help teach students secretarial work in the office and are always there to lend us support in our school activities. You may not know it but our counselors carry a lot of responsibilities. Not only do they help with our personal and school prob- lems. but they also provide us with college, vocational, and military information. They help organize test schedules, apprenticeship programs, and keep track of each studentls credits. They also are there to help each of us select the appropriate courses and electives we need to prepare us for graduation. The coiumselors- are continuously working every day to help the students, and it's a good thing to know that they're there whenever we need help. i'Someone to talk toy' is how the job of the Human Relations Aides could be described, but that's not all they do. The aides also help with registration, tutor, and organize staff ac- tivities to generate camaraderie. Their many valuable services have helped everyone at Garfield to become more unified. At the sound of three rings security guards rush to respond to help students with prob- lcms, assist the administration with keeping students in class and violence levels down. They feel that this year there are fewer prob- lems to deal with compared to past years, as the students, faculty and administration are working closer together with security. Also, the students seem to be resolving their own 6 Bullness . . . Roscoe B. Bass, Principal . ..,. , ,.,.. i M-I Qt Richard Fain, Vice Principal
