Pleasant harmony, song leading chants, and chemistry facts were heard filtering throughout the room. Copy writers could be found in the corners pulling their hair, reaching for something clever and original. Lay-out technicians kept screaming for more concise lay-outs, while Mr. Iverson, advisor, and staff artists mapped artistic ideas. However, as the season progressed, desire and teamwork made shambles of these dire opinions. Garfield 12, Lincoln 7-Led by the running of Art Eastland and the passing of Jamie Campbell, the Pups upset the highly-rated Lynx. Garfield 7, Queen Anne 6-The stout Bulldog defense stopped the Grizzlies three times inside the Pup 20 yard-line in the final quarter, to climax the finest defensive effort of the season. Garfield 19, Ballard 0-The Pups' yardage-consuming pass-attack swept past the Beavers. This win vaulted Garfield into first place. Garfield l2, Sealth 6-Sparked by Burnell Bolden's fourth quarter 50-yard run, the Bulldogs broke a 6-6 tie to win, in the closing moments, the toughest game of the year. Garfield 19, Roosevelt l2-The Bulldogs Ding Donged the Teddies f right out of Memorial Stadium. Despite the use of a play from the football archives, the margin of victory was a powerful ground game. And Garfield, for the fourth time in six years, was again the possessor of the undisputed city championship. Garfield l3, Clover Park 7-Clover Park came into the Turkey Day game holding top position in the state football poll, and with a vengeful desire for victory. Although the score indicates a close game, the Bulldogs dominated the statistics.
