AS WE, fhe graduafing class of I953 prepare fo leave fhe beloved halls of Garfield High School and go on fo wide horizons and various fields of endeavor, we will carry wifh us many fond memories of our pasf four years af James A. In I949, as a small group of bewildered buf defermined freshmen, we worlced fo esfablish for ourselves a permanenf place in fhe annals of Garfield hisfory. In our sophomore year, fhen numbering abouf 350 mem- bers, we made our pofenfial leadership felf as we success- fully manned fhe safefy pafrol, parficipafed acfively in many school affairs, and assisfed fhe seniors in fheir graduafion exercises. By our junior year we were well esfablished in fhe cusfoms and fradifions of Garfield. We had several key members in fhe school's maior organizafions and we helped fo inifiafe Garfield's Homecoming program. We were responsible for changing fhe design of fhe senior pin and for formulafing a Pep Club. Now, fhrough fhe dependable guidance of our adviser. Mrs. Wilma Lind, we are looking forward fo new advenfures and opporfunifies. Behind us are Senior nighf, pep assemblies, Purple and Whife day, our brunch, and fhe Senior Prom af ihe Nile Counfry Club following Commencemenf held af Meany Hall. Ahead is a chance fo puf +o use what we have been faughf here and fo become fhe men and women fhaf fho faculfy and adminisfrafion have helped fo mold. And so, wifh deep regref and sincere appreciafion for fhe many fhings Garfield has given us, we bid farewell, buf nof good-bye. MRS.
