LIGHTS MR. HERLIN SLOCUMB, Vice-Principal The center of Garfield activity is the office. Mrs. Semmens, the chief clerk, and Miss Drapeau, her helper, ably fulfill their duties. ' Miss Hamaoka, the guidance clerk, successfully helps the counse- lor, while Miss Warren manages the attendance department. ln the library a pleasant atmos- phere exists owing to the combined efforts of Miss Cole and her capable assistant, Mrs. Almquist. S THE VICE-PRINCIPAL of this school, Mr. Herlin Slocumb has always been respected for fair, impartial iudgment. Although responsible for the issuing of demerits to delinquent pupils, he has endeared himself to the student body as a friendly, sympathetic confidant. He is never too busy to give the con- structive and kindly advice which has, in the past, helped many pupils over- come their various problems. The faculty also finds, in this man, an exceedingly cooperative and under- standing leader, a true inspiration to all who know him. MARGARET SEMMENS SACHIKO HAMAOKA MICHELE DRAPEAU JESSIE A. His policy of employing new devel- opments to maintain the high standard required to meet today's changing needs, has established Garfield as an efficient and well-organized high school. ln addition, his successful efforts and pleasing personality are sincerely respected and admired. PILIIT MR. E. E. HANSELMAN, Principal LESLIE CRIBLEY, Boys' Advisor EMILIE HENSEL, Girls' Advisor 12 The respective counselors of our Girls' and Boys' Clubs, Miss Hensel and Mr. Cribley, have, on every occasion, strived to instill in the minds of Garfield pupils, a spirit of friendliness, sincerity, and coopera- tion, three qualities they believe to be essential in developing and enriching one's personality. Their policy of merging individual, workable ideas with those of the student body is but one of the plans sponsored by these advisors.
