Public Relations THE OFFICE STAFF, administrative nucleus of the sehool, is composed of Margaret B. Semens, head clerk, assisted hy Phyllis Raymond and juanita Carrasco. To Mrs. Semmens fall the responsihilities ol' heing secretary to hoth principals in addition to maintaining organization of all school records, Miss Raymond, aided hy Miss Carraseo, takes care of attendance, receiving from pupils letters of excuse for ahsence and issuing to them tardy slips and temporary dismissals. Many and novel are the excuses for tardiness: Vv'ell, the elock stopped during the nightug The car hroke down, and. . I thought it was Saturday, hut vvhen... g My little hrother set the clock hack heeause he thought that was the way to set it ahead, and . . To these plaintive conif ments the clerks listen patiently in order to determine the plausihility of the reasong then hy virtue of their sense of judgment and discrimination, they administer pardons and justice. These functions, however, are only minor tasks of the orlice foree. Duties of major importance include keeping program eards up to date. transferring grades from report cards to permanent reeord cards, receiving money from various sources, issuing attend' ance reports, mimeographing daily hulletins of announcements and attendance, and perlorming other tasks not realized hy the general populace of the school.
