This year Garfield's Golf team consists mainly of the underclassmen, most of them in their first year of varsity competition. But under the influence of Coach Demery Smith, the team is expected to display a very good show by the time the 'district tournament arrives. Through observation of the team's practice at Potter's Park, this prophesy will probably be fulfilled. The Strength and Efficiency Tests are given in all of the gym classes at Garfield High in which every boy gets to display his talent. Each year the winner is given a trophy in honor of his achievement. This year the winner was a iunior, Al Schultheiss, who had a total of 6,922 out of a possible 7000 points. The Tennis team this season should be tremendous. With four returning lettermen who were very good last year, Coach Robert Kinch is expecting a good season. The boys' team is always a top contender for district and state honors every year and this year should be the same. The Volleyball Champion Club at Garfield High was a group of senior boys called the Nans, Intra- mural games are held in tournament fashion and the winners of these games are proclaimed champs of G.H.S.
