Q Before assuming office each member takes an oath that he will support the national and state constitutions and that he will perform faithfully the duties of his office. Each year at their organization meeting held the first Monday in jan- uary, the school board selects two of its members to serve as president and vice president. The school board must select a clerk who serves as secretary and treasurer. The State Board of Education states that the greatest task of a school board is the selection of a superintendent who becomes the board's chief executive. We should, indeed, be grateful to our board members who work number- less hours to provide the best possible educational advantages for the children and adults of Garfield Heights, for which service they receive only 536.00 a year as specified by state law.
