The 1986 State FHA Convention was held in Billings April 2nd through the 4th. Wednesday evening opened the conven- tion with the guest speaker, Steve Ziemke from the Montana Youth Alive. His presentation was on New atti- tudes and self esteem. After this session members participated in a Fun Fair which was a ice breaker in which the members got to know new people. Thursday morning bright and early the 13 members from Jordan went 13 directions to compete in their proficiency events. While breaks in competitions gave breathers, 'sizzler' workshops were attended. Kim Wilson and Kara Clark helped Gloria Clark host the State Chapter Parents Luncheon. Gloria Clark, our local chapter mother, introduced the 1986-87 State chapter mother Pam Curnow. Gloria was the 1985-86 State mother and did alot for our local chapter as well as spent a lot of planning the Convention with the State officers. Thursday night was fun night with a Lip Sync Contest in which every chapter participated. Paul and Lisa Buffington, Shavon Hooker, Kim Kreider, and Marcene McWilliams performed California Girls. After the contest a dance was held, with a disc jockey,who helped to get the swing going. National FHA President Marianne Cozzens from Powell, Wyoming. Lucy M. and Mary D. receiving their medals. Friday morning we attended the 3rd general session where awards and medals were'presented. Receiving medals in their events were: Mary D.-Silver,Lucy M.- Bronze, Kim W. and Kara C.-Silver, Jen W.-Silver,Shavon H.-Gold, Shelly McW.-Bronze,Marcene McW.- Silver, Kim K-Gold. At 1p.m. Friday afternoon the closing ceremonies were held after the banquet. After shopping at the mall a short time we got to Jordan around 10p.m. Mrs. Honore Bray, our Home Ec. teacher, and FHA and Annual Advisor, has been named the State of Montana Home Ec. teacher of the year for 1986.

On April 22, 1986, Mrs. Edwards, Pam Beecher, and Shan Whiteside left for Washington D.C. They toured D.C. until the 24th when they flew to Colurtxis, Ohio. Their opening session and ccnpetitions were on the 25th. Shan made it to the finals so he carpeted on the 26th. The open ccnpetitions were on the 27th. The awards ass- embly was on the 28th. Shan placed 9th in Extemporaneous Speaking and Pam placed 20th in Job Interview. They returned heme on the 29th. They all enjoyed it very much and got to meet new people. We are very proud of them. They did a good job. 7
