Al Johnson was born October 9, 1923 in Plentywood Montana. He grew up in the North East part of the state and graduated from Plentywood High School in 1941. After graduation he started his career with horses or horse related jobs. He says, before coming to Garfield County High School I spent most of my life on horseback or horse related. Starting back in the middle 40's I worked for such good 01' big outfits like itch Fork, Antler, Padlock, Stovalls and Double Arrow, while at the Kona Ranch I suffered several heart attacks which eventually brought our move to Jordan. Betty and I have been married 25 years.” Al has been very active in Garfield County High School. He taught art class for 8 years and has subbed for many teachers since. When teaching art courses they consisted of Oil painting. Water color and Drawing, with the subjects running mostly toward the Western Art side. He tried to run a class that the kids enjoyed and felt free to work and discuss their work. He was also involved with the school by judging the High School Rodeo for about 8 years and helping with quite afew of the Youth Rodeo Association Shows. Since moving to Jordan, Al has continued with Western Art and feels a gratifying success in it. He feels his paintings are all over the United States and he is glad he can continue to get commissions even in a slower economy. Al has been a big part of Garfield County High School and we hope he will continue to be in the future. His inspiring stories help to structure the lives of all of us. 1986 REMUDA IS DEDICATED TO AL JOHNSON 17 GOOD LUCK SENIORS 1987 The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back, I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood , and I- I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference. ROBERT FROST LOOK TO THE FUTURE LEADERS OF THE PACK Working on annual has been a lot of fun. I have enjoyed catching people at their dumbest mcments. Fall of 1986 brought about Mr. Baules 4th year at this fine institution. He spends his time doing paper work, disciplining and running between the two schools to keep control. When out of the office Marilyn Uthaug and Betty Johnson keep things under control. Marilyn is the secretary for good old GCHS, and helps in the library a few hours a day. In her spare time she does favors for the faculty. She is a real asset to our school. Betty spends her time answering the phone and taking care of the office when Marilyn is out, but the majority of her time is spent doing the books, and clerical work for the school board. This is Betty Johnsons 9th year at GCHS. Without these people GCHS would not be the same. Our sponsor Mrs. Bray would be the single reason we ever got this thing out. When we did work, however, our editors were at least half- way dedicated to their jobs. At the top af the list would be Victor Ady as Layout Editor, with four years of experince. Our Photography Editor was Alberta Murnion who knew absolutely nothing about the job, but did pretty good anyways. Finally Rhonda Gagnon, who never made us quite enough money as Financial Ed i tor. All of us on thr Annual Staff hope you enjoy this book and buy many more for friends and family. 51 SPECIAL IIECOOKATIIMi OF «- 7 SCHOOL YEAH Gina FitzGerald was nominated for Mac- Donaid1s All State Band by Virginia Willie. Two people from each state are selected. The band performs in most all major par- ades. Thanks to the efforts of the cast, FHA members and FHA adviser, a successful dinner theatre was presented on the 15th. A matinee was presented on the 14th for the public and the 16th for the elementary school. Staging a play of any size requires the continual cooperation and dedication of many people and many hours of preparation. The cast and crew of the Empress' New Clothes enjoyed three successful performances because we spent the time and energy needed. There is only one thing left to say at this time: We would like to thank all the little people who made this possible and especially Mrs. Coulter for her time and expertice and her family for letting us take her away from home. 75 DRILL TEAitt Drill Team L to R Kim K., Tammy., Jeanna I., Cinda P., Mega S., Bottom Jen W., Debbie T., Shay 6., Mindy 0., Kam R. 1985 Drill Team for Girls Basketball District Tourney. Coming into the second year of Speech and Debate the teams had a turn out of five participants. Debate, coached by Nick Murnion and Dan Murnion, proved to be fruitless for one of the teams, in the name of Lige Murrey and Ed Ady later to become Lige and Shan Whiteside. However the team of A1berta 'Murnion and Pam Beecher managed to reach state level. In Speech, coached by Lorri Coulter, Kim Kreider was the only active oarticipant. Lorri says we probably would have done better if the turnout oas better but Kim did pretty well. Even though Speech and debate does requre some extra work, we hope the turnout will be greater in the years to come. 82 THE IIEST IS VET TO Cll.ttE See more photos pages 102,103,108 What's the answer for number three.
