She was the Annual Editor her Junior year and par- ticipated in the school plays and Driftwood Players. ALAN CLARK contributed a lot to Basketball and Track, and will be remembered for his angel smile to the referees whenever they called a foul on him in the games. Those left- handed jump-shots were a sight to see. Her years in Australia must have rubbed off on her, as CANDY COLDWELL became known for her kangaroo lay-ups in Basketball. She also par- ticipated in Track and was a great Rodeo fan. During her years at GCHS DRA DREW contributed a lot the Home Economic Depart- ment by being a Teachers As - istant in the afternoons. How he ever put up with those classes s a mystery to us all! She is Iso easily recognized by her ood loote and pretty hair.. We would like to introduce to you GCHS's very own clown, LEO DUTTON. He made the streets of Jordan his race track, and if you have ever seen his driving you will understand why his parents won't let him drive anything but Iris checker. Level-headed MARYENG- AHL could always be found at ne end of the hall or the other- :he Home -Ec room or the Typing oom. Hardly a week went by :hat she didn't decorate a fancy ake for an occasion. She was ■ery creative, all the way from acrame to reupholstering her ar seats. 38 SENIORS Quick-witted BOB FITCH was always trying to get into trouble and usually managed to do just that. Although he spent part of his Senior year without a vehicle Bob managed to make it to all the parties. Drama enthusiast TAMMI GRIMM was noted for her great acting job in Humorous Duo. Tammi always kept up on the latest fashions. She was also a Saga Editor 3 years. SCOTT GUFTILL is a happy mixture of brain and brawn. He was voted Most Intelligent of his class and he made the All- Conference Football Team. DUANE JESSEN went all out for sports. He was successful in Football, Track Basketball, but he never quite managed to be a success in Singles Survival. RHONDA LOOMIS always had a ready smile and plenty of time to visit with all of her friends. She was always at the school working on the Saga. Student Body and Senior Class President PHILLIP LOSINSKI was a good Leader but had rotten luck with motorcycles. Because of an accident on one his arm was in a cast several months. 39 Rodeo Hand,MAURY MUR- NION,was always calm, cool, and collected, even during disasters of which there were many when he was around. Although he was always trying, he seldom won an with Echo. arguement B. J. RICH has a different facial expression for every oc- casion. She made many con- tributions to the athletic scene with her wittiness and talent. She never ran out of energy and was always ready for a party. Three cheers for the Annual Editor!!! Sweet ole ECHO RILEY can be found either working on the Annual or riding around town in a brown Ford pick-up. You could harldy tell where she left off and the person next to her began. SENIORS Pick-up loving MORGAN MICHAEL was known for his CB Jargon and his CB column in the Saga. He enjoyed harassing the teachers and goof- ing off almost as much as fixing up his pick-up. Our one and only BRENT MURNION spent half his time here at GCHS harassing teach- ers and the other half flirting with the girls. He also com- peted with several other kids in dragging the streets as much as possible. In case you didn't recognize him without his cowboy hat, this is DIXON MURNION. Dixon hated French because he said it was just like learning a different language . 40 Because of MARK WEEDING’S unique giggle, he has never lacked friends by his side or girls in his arms. He was Prom King and Most Valuable Player in Football. He worked hard as President of the Rodeo Club Junior year. SENIORS Tall, slim LES THOMAS will be remembered for his guitar - pickin’ with Clay Taylor. He was very quiet until he hopped into his pick-up where he was constantly talking on the CB to his pal Morgan Michael. Good-natured TIM THOMAS will be remembered for keep- ing the class occupied with his far-fetched stories and his wreckless driving. He had to use his brain to hold his own against Deanna's teasing in Consumer Ed. Hard-working, fun-loving DONNA WEEDING will be re- membered as the strong woman in Cheerleading since she held all of the others while they made their fancy formations. She de - served a little cheering of her own while she was on the Bas - ketball Court or Rodeo Arena. Outgoing and busy DEANNA RITTER will be remembered for her curly hair, musical ability and the way she port- rayed a drunken lady in Lem- onade . She was Queen at th Winter Dance. Shy, quiet TOM SPILLUM had many troubles with his car not starting. He managed to miss the first two weeks of basketball practice due to a football injury. Tom also had trouble becoming a stun- ning success in Singles 41 B.J. Rich Sec. -Trea. Leslie Artz S m j| t Couii. Rep. Leo Dutton Vice-Res. LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT BOB WILSON is always as good-natuied as his hair is ted, except when he was on the Foot ball field where he turned into something to be afraid of. He got cleaned up from auto-work just long enough to get King at the Winter Formal. Tall, sandy-haired, out-going, I guitar-pickin' GEORGE WILSON I lias probably had more fun in Hig I School than anyone else. He was lalways ready to take someone for la ride in his new pick-up Class Motto: Life is not only desire and determination, ... it is also a merriment. Class colors: Light Blue and Dark Blue Class Flower: White Mum Don't let KAYLEEN WRIGHT'S quietness fool you! Once you get to know her, her jokes will keep you rolling on the floor. Thanks to TIM THOMAS's con- tribution of Budweiser cans thrown over the bridge. As we headed for the Subway, we saw RHONDA LOOMIS in charge of a Saniation Crew. She took the job in hopes that someone would sweep her off her feet. Rhonda warned us that a maniac was driving the Sub- way but we boarded anyway. The doors were closed be - fore we saw that the driver was LEO DUTTON. Leo said it was much easier to drive than a car. It goes in a straight line and seldom jumps the track. After we miraculously reached our destination, we called a taxi. Were we ever shocked when ECHO RILEY came zooming up the hill. Well, needless to say we cal- led another taxi. Echo didn't seem hurt--even started to fill us in on local news. She pointed to a nearby high- rise and said SCOTT GUPTILL had built it. That the apartments were lovely and reasonable--just one draw back. There was 8 x 10 picture of Scott in every room-- 8 foot by 10 foot, that is. Just then the taxi came and took us to the Famous Flaming Flandings. And who should meet us at the door but BOB WILSON with open arms. As he led us down the red carpet we noticed that every thing was color coor- dinated to match his beautiful red hair. As soon as we were settled in our red room, Bob sug- gested we try the Losinski Delicatessen and visit with PHILLIP LOSINSKI who has become famous for his Polish sausage. Phillip was his same old cheery self plus a hun- dred extra pounds. He must like his own cooking. After eating we hurried back to the hotel so we would not miss the night show. The Maitre D', wearing a black tuxedo with a pink ruffled shirt, casually looked the other direction until I slipped him a 20. Then with a flurish he took us to the best table in the room. As he pulled out my chair, I no- ticed he was wearing cowboy boots. So I looted again. Good Grief! It was DIXON MURNION. As we sipped the drinks he brought, we were startled by a yell so loud it shattered our glasses. The curtains opened and who should come swinging out on jungle vines but BRENT MURNION AND DONNA WEEDING doing their ever so popular Tarzan and Jane routine. When their vines finally quit swinging, they jumped to the floor. Brent, playing Tarzan, looked at Jane, portrayed by Donna, and said, Me Tarzan, you Jane.” And with that their act was over. Much to our amazement they received a standing ovation while we were walking out. Early the next morning we were awakened by the squeak of several window washers. We really weren’t surprised to see BOB FITCH, DUANE JESSEN, AND TOM SPILLUM peering in at us. It is probably the only way they can get a thrill. Even in High School they could never catch a girl. Before we could get the curtains pulled, they handed us their business card, Sightsee'ers Anonymous' . After dressing in the closet, we headed for the metro- politan area of Jordan. Upon entering a very exclusive- looking shop, we recognized MORGAN MICHAEL model- ing some recent creations from his line-up of Michael Designs. He modestly gave credit for his success to B.J. Rich, his wonderful seamstress, who helped to put the pieces together. We went back and tried to talk to B.J. but she had a mouth full of pins and refused to mutter a word. We took advantage of the situation and told her a few things she hadn’t given us a chance to in High School, We went on down the street in hopes of meeting more friends. Sure enough, there was MAURY MURNION stand- ing in the intersection directing traffic. He was all deck- ed out in a blue cop suit except for a wide-rimmed cowboy hat placed upon his close-shaven head. We were glad to see some things never change. Maury stopped the traffic for us to cross. We thanked him and he just grinned and waved us on. In the afternoon we went to the Mattinee of that ever- popular classic, Snow White and the Bionic Dwarves , produced by the one and only MARK WEEDING. We hoped it would be good but had our doubts remembering the plays we had at school. You recall the character. Snow White—pure, sweet, and innocent. The part was played by NEDRA DREW. Well, Casting was never one of Mark's strong points. The star of the show was un- doubtedly ALAN CLARK as Prince Charming. Every- one in the theater applauded every time he belted her a good one. Back at the hotel, we decided to take a swim. And who should be cleaning the pool but CANDY COLDWELL. We were a little surprised until she explained that her farmer husband was still on strike and she needed the money to support the family. After 10 years it gets a little rought. Whe wishes Union Leader, LES TIOMAS, would call off the strike. Since we couldn’t swim, we decided to visit the old school. There was TAMMI GRIMM in the library pre- paring for her English classes. Imagine Tammi a teacher. And we thought she would amount to something when she was in High School. Down in the new gym we found KAYLEEN WRIGHT really giving the P. E. classes a work-out. And she was doing those calisthenics right with them. Must have been a ct nge alon the line somewhere. After that surprise, we didn't know how much more we could handle. Our noses led us right to Ma’s Bakery. There was MUFF ENGDAHL turning out delicious donuts and fabulous pastries. Muff had found a line of work she could be happy doing. After all the excitement we decided to skip the re- union and head back to our home and job. We, DEANNA RITTER AND LESLIE ARTZ, live in the swamps trapping alligators to sell for their skins. We also run a guide ser- vice. GEORGE WILSON is our head guide, but usually gets lost. That is another reason we need to hurry home. We left with a warm feeling toward our old class- mates and hoped that all of them would continue to be happy doing whatever they are doing. 48 49 HE MEN OH THE SEVEHTH FLOOR IVKIORL Class Officers: President Lloyd McKenna, Vice-Pres. Tom Billing was Master of Ceremonies for both banquets. At the football banguet, Mr. Beaver passed out certificates and awarded trophies to tire players while the mothers gave football medals to all the boys. The tables were decorated wit]} footballs and helmets with orange and black crepe paper. At the girls banguet, Mr. Cascaden passed out letters and bars and awarded trophies to tire players. School Spirit Is Contagious___________________________________ f r jV- x L Share It WIth A Friend The cheerleaders did a fine job this year of leading cheers and planning pep rallies. The A-Squad built pyramids, stood on each others shoulders, and enter- tained the crowds with several dangerous poses. They also had flops as Echo twisted her ankle jumping down from Donna's shoulders and while posing for a picture, LeAnn got shoved into the floor face first. Their most hazardous cheer was Boogie when Echo and Tana got on Donna’s back and LeAnn trustingly(?) got under- neath. The B-Squad also contributed a lot to keep the spirit going. They did Funky Chicken with the A-Squad as well as the School Song. Everyone gasped when B. J. went into the splits after jumping off Wanda and Ruth’s backs. Of all their cheers, they enjoyed doing Hustle Fight the most. Their mascot, Jean, ie Beaver, had the crowd dipping to Firecracker . She also got a headache when she got kicked in the head by the rest of the B-Squad cheerleaders in Funky Feet . The two loyal sponsors were Miss Voss for the A-Squad and Miss Lorello for Football and B-Squad. Although the tasks you set us Were difficult to do. And the scholarship requirements Oft made us cross and blue, Your ears were deaf to pleading; We worked with all our might. And to a noble purpose, As we attest to-night. We'll take no tearful leaving, We'll say no sad good-byes, For, though our hearts are heavy The world before us lies. Our school days have been happy. But now 'tis time to go. Behind are recollections; Ahead our futures glow. As children, tired of playing, At sunset hurry home, Back to the Garfield County High School We, too, some day shall come. And when across our pathway Time's cool gray shadow falls, You’ll hear our weary footsteps Returning to your halls. To you, oh, Alma Mater, Our loyalty we give; This be your pride and honor: You taught us how to live. Effa E. Preston
