It was a tough season for record purposes, but many athletes saw action and a brighter future looms for the fighting Mustangs. Two Mustangs were named to the Eastern B all-conference list. They were Ed Ryan, junior guard (second team) and linebacker, Richard Barbula (honorable mention). Both boys will be part of a strong nucleus which returns for the 1974 campaign. The 1973 football season saw the Mustangs in a new conference (Eastern B ). The Mustangs also had a new Coach. Coach Rogers combed the county and produced a herd of 31 to begin the season. The Mustangs being very inexperienced and young were surprised in the first game by Circle; but managed to bounce back against Scobey only to lose a hard fought game in the last few seconds. Then a couple power houses came to Jordan. Medicine Lake and Sacred Heart put the shackles to the Mustangs. The Mustangs then took to the road, losing hard fought games to Fairview and Forsyth. The rising Saint Labre Indians visited Mustang land and escaped with a narrow victory. The next week, it was off to Hawk country; there, the Mustangs ran into a defense which corralled them and again they went down to defeat.
