It was a tough season for record purposes, but many athletes saw action and a brighter future looms for the fighting Mustangs. Two Mustangs were named to the Eastern B all-conference list. They were Ed Ryan, junior guard (second team) and linebacker, Richard Barbula (honorable mention). Both boys will be part of a strong nucleus which returns for the 1974 campaign. The 1973 football season saw the Mustangs in a new conference (Eastern B ). The Mustangs also had a new Coach. Coach Rogers combed the county and produced a herd of 31 to begin the season. The Mustangs being very inexperienced and young were surprised in the first game by Circle; but managed to bounce back against Scobey only to lose a hard fought game in the last few seconds. Then a couple power houses came to Jordan. Medicine Lake and Sacred Heart put the shackles to the Mustangs. The Mustangs then took to the road, losing hard fought games to Fairview and Forsyth. The rising Saint Labre Indians visited Mustang land and escaped with a narrow victory. The next week, it was off to Hawk country; there, the Mustangs ran into a defense which corralled them and again they went down to defeat. They were held three days, for a total of eighteen hours in the spring and fall quarters. The students received credit each quarter that they attended. The courses were designed by the students, faculty and interested people of the community. Approximately twenty courses were offered with students selecting the area of their interest. The Pop Courses offered a change of pace for students to survey many fields, of vocational and avocational interests. The school was able to bring in experts on a three day basis. Probably most important, experts who live in the community were able to be utilized and become a part of their school system. Pop Courses rewarded students and adults a capsule package of education in a concentrated form. The enthusiasm with which the Pop Courses were accepted by the students and the community insured their continuation and refinement. 12 Got your Knight, Dee! ? I am the truant officer at a small school in Buffalo, Wyoming. With the help of my list of absentees and my experience at dodging classes, I landed the job easily, quite easily. I haven't always wanted to be a truant officer but what the heck, you should see what happened to the rest of the class after 10 years. Remember Kerrie Padget, you know, the one with long skinny legs and bellowing horse laugh? Well, she never did become a doctor but quite the opposite in fact. She's been married to three different men and has had six kids. Keep the faith Hall. Dick Cooley finally got his mind right and is a millionaire, that's not bad too, compared to what he's doing. He's part owner and model for Playgirl. Who owns the other half? You guessed it . . . Tom Eaton of course. Tom handles the photog- raphy and is world famous for his favorite line, Smile Dicky. What a couple of clowns. Not too long ago I saw that Lyle Fogle made the news. He was working in Marine Land when a whale called Fritzy swallowed him. Lyle was still believed alive but the whale seemed to belly up. The Vet has found strange marks on Fritzy's small intestines believed to be tracks from Lyle's elevated shoes that he was last seen wearing. Crop prices are up again which should make Mike Ballensky happy. He's married now to Diane Rath and they have four children. Poor Diane, she just wanted to be a nurse. Robert Gibbs is doing quite well for himself. He took dancing lessons two years after high school and now has the pleasure of doing the Bic pen ad- vertisement. It involves a little dance with the product clamped on to his hi-heeled boot. Bill McRae is now back at Garfield County High as Mr. Gallahan's assistant coach. In his spare time he rodeos. Diane and Ed Brooks are now running a day care nursery. They almost have to with their thirteen kids. Tanna Bibeau's soft secretarial hands are now coarse, calloused stubs from milking cows at the Jerry Hensleigh farm. Hang in there Tanna. Irene Pluhar and her husband have no children. They are too busy raising coyotes to keep their baby calves happy. Cheryl Shawver who always wanted to be an All- American Girls Basketball Coach, is still sitting at the trees waiting for the senior keggar. Mean- while, Ralph Lehner is still going strong on the graduation party. Where are you Ralph? The Pioneer Garage is under the new management of Kenny South. Kathy is handling body shop work. A few years after high school Rex Murnion ac- quired a new life-style. He is now the editor of an underground anti-cowboy newspaper. Jed Jessen is making his living at the end of a cue stick. He manufactures the little rubber pads on custom cues. Due to circumstances beyond his control, Cavin Murnion is now the World's Grand Champion Streaker. He's been running for ten years to pre- serve his bachelor life. Linda Helm went to an auctioneer school and now manages all bull sales at Jordan and nearby towns. Sandy Nelson twisted her way to fortune. She is now the world's fastest bottle capper in the Bud- weiser Company. She finally found something she could work above. Mike Fogle is now a professional demo driver. Stands to reason, all the practice he had in younger days. Jim Dick's name hit the entertainment charts. He put Gean Tracy out of business his second year after graduation. Jim Burchett after his pro-tour in basketbalL has settled down as the Mayor of Jordan and polishes boots in his spare time. Oh, by the way, Burchett is only 5'5 now, after too many years of sleeping on a bed that was two feet too short. Rod Weeding is just the average everyday farmer. Every day he looks out the window from his re- cliner to check the average growth of his crops. The Drive Inn business has prospered much with Wes Watson's Booming quarterhorse burger at McDonald's. Jew Wheatcroft is in New Orleans dealing stud at a gambling casino. He couldn't ever play very well, so he just settled for dealing. Last but not least is Penny Johnson, the quiet little gal gave Jordan exactly what it had been needing for years. She is the star of a Rock group called the Pinching Pennies. 36 Top Row: L-R, Jane Slayton, Randy Lehner, Larry McWilliams, Mrs. Diede. Bottom Row: Deanna McWilliams, Jane Hoverson, Mary Mumion. Nobody, But Nobody, Messes With the Principal!!! He meandered into town with his family, his horses, and his ideas, and since his stay, has made Garfield County High School a better, more enjoyable, more educational place. Our fearless leader that we ail know as Mr. Tom Eaton came to Jordan in 1972 loaded with new and better ideas on how to run a school. His inspiration and drive has rubbed off on the students, giving the school spirit and moral a terrific boost. Some of his new ideas to remodel the school were the introduction of honor passes, which inspired the students to strive for better grades, and the pop courses held twice yearly which taught students other useful and interesting subjects. Because this wonderful man has done so much for us, the annual staff wants to show their deep appreciation for him by taking this opportunity to publicly thank him for the many hours of time and effort, thoughtful gestures, and hard work he has put into this school these past two years. Lack of emotion or feeling. 2. Lack of interest in things generally found exciting, interesting, or moving: indifference. (Greek apatheia, from apathes, without feeling: a-(without) + pathos, feel- ing (see-pathy).) A large majority of the students at G.C.H.S. suffer from apathy. Why should they do any work when they can sit back and gripe complain about a certain extra-curricular activity and still reap the benefits of that activity. Why should they work on the annual? They'll be able to buy one in the fall without working on the staff. Why should they work on the Saga? They'll still be able to read it every week without working on the staff. Why should they go out for sports or any extra-curricular activity for that matter? They'll still be able to get out of school to go to games and plays. Why should the majority of the students do any extra-curricular work at all? Why? Because the handful of students who do the extra-curricular activities are tired of doing all the work all of the time. They're tired of putting in long hours after school on something the rest of the school takes for granted, and sometimes ridicules. Pretty soon these few students will grow tired of being taken advantage of and quit. What will happen then is up to the rest of you. You can either continue being apathetic and loose some of the extra-curricular activities that are offered, or you can better your school, your community, and most important, you can better yourself by joining in and working for an extra-curricular activity. Try it, you might accidently discover it can be fun. 63 Sitting, 1st Row: Leslie Artz, Pam Cowin, Elsie Cowin, Shelly Hageman, Connie Lervick, Mary Engdahl, Charlie Diede. 2nd Row: Anita Landers, Dirk Currey, Kelly MacDonald, Barbara Jo Harbaugh, Rita Hansard, Randy Lehner. 3rd Row: Terry Ritter, Larry Barnes, Craig Riley, David Bailey. 4th Row: Kathy Helm, Irene Lillienthall, Donna Weeding, Lana Beginski.
