The Garey Soccer Team is, top row, I. to r., Coach Sandhu, Jesus Perez, Robert Navarette, Armando Macias, Javier Orozco, Aurelio Alvarez, Alfonso Reyes, Joe Ramirez: bottom row, I. to r., Jesus Lopez, Dioscuro Macias, Santos Franco, Arturo Reyes, Joe, Abel Quevedo, Ben Perez. Over the last three years of coaching Coach Sandu says I found that Soccer as an Sport is becoming very popular at Garey . The soccer team won the SAL championships two years straight. In 1976-77 the team took second place. This year made the third year in a row they made it to CIF playoffs. Even though they lost in the second round of the playoffs last year, the Soccer Team came up ery strong this year. In the year of 1976-77, they wrapped up a record of 15 wins 4 losses and 3 ties. Last year C 77-78 J along with the league championship, they ended up the season with a record of C 16-2-3 J. This year the Soccer team won third place in the Damine Tourney out of 32 teams. They were Co-champions along with Claremont in the league. This year the team forwarded 101 goals while opponents scored only 11 goals against our team in 23 games. The Soccer team broke the CIF record by scoring 101 goals. They had lots of talented players on their team like Dioscoro Macias and Robert Navarete. Dioscoro Macias set a new record in the CIF in assists by making 50 assists in a single season. He made SAL first team for four years. Dioscoro was elected MVP by the coaches in 1977-78 and 1978-79 in SAL. Robert Navarete, their highest scorer, made 30 goals this season.
