THE ARGUS Our Freshman Party was a success ful social event We cast trad1t1on aside and hnred a dance band instead of having a square dance It was fun to be with Just our own classmates Mr Williams left us ln February but we were very fortunate that there was a capable person to replace h1m Mr Gearan began and continued his leadership m a friendly and sincere manner We were honored to have Ber nard Oesch as an exchange student Through h1m we gained understanding of the people and customs of Switzer and Tired after an exhausting yet re wardmg year we packed our books and went home to enJoy our summer vacation SOPHOMORE YEAR We began our sophomore year by assembling ln the audltorlum to elect our class ofiicers We chose John Mmns to serve as president Chr1st1ne Nyman vice president Bob D111 treas urer and Carol Osterberg secretary The football team was defeated in only one game This was Leominster by a score of 1312 Our class was well represented ln football by Paul Hagen Michael LaFortune John Edward Nobrega Paul Bukowski James Johnson Anthony Kraskouskas Norman Beauregard Dave Kempl Tlmothy Matukas Alfred Mercier Kenneth Stone and Andre Valols During our sophomore year the girls field hockey team played seven games The varsity had a record of two wms three losses and two ties the Junior varsity won four and lost three games Girls recelvmg field hockey letters and numerals from our class were Barbara Davldowlcz Donna Kauppl Joyce Tresback Carol Cunningham Joanne Kauppmen Annette Rem1llard Holly Zetterberg and Barbara Nichols The girls basketball team Won two games and lost four The members of our class who Were on the varsity team were Helen Smith Barbara Davidowicz Donna Kauppl Joyce Tresback and Susan Hobbs with Carol Osterberg as manager Our sophomore party was held in the form of a Halloween party with corn stalks and pumpklns adornmg Thls year we added fifty classmates from Westminster all of whom have contributed to the success of our class A band concert was held with Merldan Connecticut ln the sprmg of our sophomore year One of the happenings around school durmg the last few months of our sophomore year was the beginning of the new boys locker room ln the back of our school At the Pro Merxto assembly Thomas Johnson was presented the Lamp of Learnlng as the h1ghCSt rankmg sophomore JUNIOR YEAR September came again time to set with the satlsfylng feeling of finally tle down polish our shoes and stay bemg upperclassmen we met with home Week nights doing homework Mr Lahtlnen and elected class officers Soon after we began the school year presldent Thomas Leavltt vice pres .
