THE ARGUS Lahtmen thls year w1ll be presldent Thomas Leav1tt VICE pres1dent Sharon BllSS secretary Chr1st1ne Nyman and treasurer Edward Nobrega Th1s year our football team got off to a good start Of course our semor cheerleaders Joanne Kaupp1nen Dolores Br1deau and Judy WIJCOX were there to lend a helpmg hand and brmg glory to G H S Our very cap able co capta1ns Mo Nobrega and Bob D1ll led the team on to an unde feated season wxth only SIX polnts scored agamst us The g1rls hockey team also had a successful season th1s year However next years team w1ll be w1thout the asslstance of Barbara Davldowlcz Barbara Nlchols Joanne Kauppmen Holly Zetterberg Carol Cunmngham Donna Kauppl and Annette Rem1llard Wlth the end of football and hockey the cast of the Sen1or Play T1me Out for Gmger was kept busy re hearsmg for the blg n1ght Needless to say the play was a blg success Perhaps next year our football team Wlll find a number of g1rl athletes on lt Dur1ng the basketball season we could always find Bud Sm1th who IS a member of the North Worcester County All Star Team Dave Kemp1 R1ch1e Renes and Ken Aho s1nk1ng baskets on the court Basketball was a b1g thmg around school thls year under the leadershlp of Coach Joe B1shop The gxrls also had a very 1m presslve season w1nn1ng eleven games and losmg only two The Sen1or members Barb Dav1dow1cz L1l D01 ron Donna Kauppl Dolly Desmond Cele LSIUO Joyce Tresback and Pat OLeary leave a blg gap to be filled Our swlmmmg team too d1d well th1S year CoCapta1ns Bob D111 and Norm Beauregard along vnth Paul Hagen and Ronny Rogers helped Mr T1nkers tank team to w1n the state t1tle aga1n Lolllpops balloons and Jump ropes were a blg success at the Sen1or K1d Party Ronny Dobson w1th h1s bongo drums and Tom Johnson wlth h1s gultar led the k1dd1CS 1n a commu mty s1ng Although our re1uvenat1on lasted but a short tlme lt certa1nly was a not Pray tell what w1ll hap pen to Barby s Davy Crockett hat and Ronny s fish? Surely the class of 59 proved ltself on the grldlron In December everyone watched the absentee l1st grow longer and longer when the students were affected by the Aslan flu ep1dem1c Everyone recovered before lt was necessary to have a day off Old Man Wlnter cooperated however and Wednesdays seemed like holldays SIX ln a row' In March we had a sprmg bllzzard w1th drlfts two feet high The field hockey team had much success because of the stxck swmgmg of Iamce Jaxllet Barbara Davldowlcz Lllllan Doxran and Holly Zetterberg Our basketball teams were not too lmpresslve but as the saylng goes Wa1t t11l next year The sw1mm1ng team w1th the help of Bob Dxll John Olechneckl Norm Beauregard Ronme Rogers and Paul Hagen won the Massachusetts State Champlonshlp Meet held at the Um verslty of Massachusetts The baseball team because of 1ts lmpresslve record was 1nv1ted to the playoffs for state champlonshlp Our representatlves on thls squad were John Mmns John and Dlck Wolanskl Dlck Renes Dave Keresey and Paul Hagen Hlghlxghts of the Washmgton Trlp the lmpresslve slght of the Lmcoln Memorlal the antlcxpated football game m the hotel corrldor cancelled by a forelgn mtruder called the House Detectlve the hubba hubba photo- grapher the student who had the prlvllege of smgmg wxth Corrxne Calvert The Iumor Senlor Prom a valentine dance was an outstandmg event of the year Many w1ll remember the post prom spectacular put on by Tom Leavltt and Chrxstme Nyman as they pranced through West Gardner square Wlth the dummy that had been used for decoratlng In the sprmg our frlends from Tr1n1dad were welcomed to the halls of Gardner Hlgh The Three Flags for Frxendshlp program was launched and calypso mtermmgled wlth the muslc of the Lloyd Lancers After entertammg the Trmldadlans for a week the fortunate band members took off for a trlp to Canada and a Saguenay Rlver crulse once agam as guests of the Slmplex Company Open House was held when the new showers were completed a declded lmprovement for the gym classes and v1s1t1ng athletlc teams The Jumor year ended Just as nt began ln a flurry of 3Ct1Vlty We were sorry to have the semors depart but we were eager to take thelr places SENIOR YEAR As much as we hated to leave our ertheless, busmess IS busmess The varxous summer pastxmes we had to electlon of class oficers was first on obey the beckonmg school bell Nev our busy agenda Workxng wlth Mr 1 , Y U . . . . . 1 1 ' 1 1 ' 1 1 . . . . . . . . . - 1 .
