,Z f .KZDFOPAKQCY As Jerry Neal and Georgie Dana packed their saddle-bags and put the finishing touches to their X N plans for a horseback trip to Califomia, they received a letter from England. Very curious - to find who it was from, they tore it open and discovered the writer to be their old school- mate, Roxy Crane. She is living in England and has married an Englishman with a long title. While getting a supply of groceries for the trip, Jerry asked to talk to the manager of the store. The manager turned out to be John Jones, the husband of Rogene Stemple. Rogene, who was working in his place. said they owned a whole chain of grocery stores. The evening before our travelers left, they made the rounds, visiting old friends they might not see for some time. Among the people visited was Mary Ethel Klamm, who was an English teacher in Olathe High School, They also saw Theresa Van Goe- them who was vising from Texas where she is Rodeo Queen. They met the former Marilyn Hoffine Ford and Bill who were visiting homefolks, and Myma Shreve, a model at Hartzfelds in New York. They made their last call at the home of Bob West, who was living happily on his large ten-acre farm with his wife and eight kids. Larry PBGICB. a hot rod racer, gave them the startling news that Johnny Velasquez has a girl friend and a car, and has joined the foreign legion. One evening about two weeks after our travelers started on their trip, they rode into a town in Westem Kansas to see a circus. Were they ever surprised to find a circus poster featuring Gene Stricker as a strong man in the same show that was featuring a fighter, Gary Rush! After a few weeks of riding, they received a letter which was forwarded from Charlotte Cloud, Qwho was teaching high standards of living to the mountain peoplej, and she said she had heard that Dorris Donaldson was attending West Point and making high marks. Just as they were about to leave Colorado, Georgie's horse fell, she was injured and taken to the hospital, The nurse in charge of her room turned out to be Reta Hamilton. She told Georgie that Ethel Nelson had married, returned to Georgia, and is raising kid goats. As they resumed their trip, they came upon a little hermit. Of all people, it turned out to be Harriet Hicks who had come west prospecting for a man. They finally reached the border of Califomia and were attending a football game between Califomia University and TCU. The TCU coach's wife, the former Barbara Ormsby, gave them a hearty welcome, She said Marilyn Laquet had just retumed to South America, where her husband is a petroleum engineer. Finally, their destination was reached, and as they were walking down the streets of Los Angeles, they noticed a poster advertising a very popular show, 'Guywires and Doll Dresses, starring Larry Clark, a double of Sunset Carson. 77 09122 When we entered Gardner High School four long years ago The time toward graduation seemed to tick away so slow. The preparations over nowg our school days all are past, And here we stand, approaching life's long curving road, at last. Back on our high school years each one of us will fondly gaze And find that these were actually our truly heavenly days. With glimpses of the memories which we hold as a class We marvel now at how the time so quickly had to pass. Freshman initiation was a feared and dreaded day Each one of us poor Freshies had to dress a certain way. Sophisticated sophomores on the following year Still we were underclassmen to the Seniors we do fear. Our Junior Prom and banquet was enjoyed much by all No finer had been given that one could well recall April fourteenth was the date that we set, For 'Chapel in the Moonlight, we'll never forget. As dignified seniors our year's story we'll relate And mention first the senior prom as a most important date. This entertainment furnished by the class that's just behind us Has helped to draw us closer, and to their hearts entwined us. Our Senior Celebrations were loaded full with fun And each Senior was included, left out not a single one. Graduation from G.H.S, we all love so dear We always will recall the days we spent together here, Our teachers and our parents a debt we'll always owe And through our life our gratitude we'll ever try to show. So from the Class of '56, farewell to each and all From us a wish for happiness strong, and wide, and tall High school days for each of us come to an end this year But graduation isn't sadg it means a new career. To Henry Davis, we leave Mary Ethel Klamm's school spirit. To Victor Fonseca, we leave Gary Rush's seat in American History. To Fred Garcia, we leave Barbara Ormsby's leadership ability. To Cread Hogan, we leave Larry Pearce's car techniques. To Sue Jensen, we leave Charlotte Cloud's sweet singing voice. To Norlea Klamm, we leave Theresa Van Goethem's 'foot juggling ways. To Wayne Knabe, we leave the freshman girls, favor of Gene Stricker. To Bill Leeker, we leave John Velasquez's shyness toward girls. To Myron Plank, we leave Dorris Donaldson's 'Valentino ways. To Lee Peters, we leave Reta Hamilton's quietness. To Joan Randall, we leave Marilyn Laquet's faithfulness to one boy. To Celia Thompson, we leave the directions to Bob West's parking spots.
