E QUI GARDINER Z3 COMPANY F 15 Although they did not look their best Gardiner easily took the much lnferior Na tional Guard team from the Capita City into camp GARDINER 16 LAWRENCE 25 Gardiner played the most pitiful brand of basketball against a game llttle team from Fairfie d After loafmg through the first half the orange and black came back to hold the up rn er team to one field goal and '1 foul but xx ere unable to sink enough shots of their ow n to ox ercome the Law rence lead GARDINER Z7 l-lALLowELL ZO Plftylng the best brlnd of basketball thus far this season Gardiner humbled a fi ht ing Hallowell five in their own Gym At no point in the game were the Black Phan toms on the short end of the tally Stan Ellls was outstanding for the vunners A at guard GPRDINER Z1 LEw1sToN 38 The score would seem to indicate that Gardiner was completely outclassed how ever such was not the case The orange and black clad warriors from a standpoint of good basketball played on an even basis with the team that was destined to be come southwestern Maine champions I fact had the orange been able to convert as large a percentage of their shots 1I1tO points as d1d the blue they would have been on the long end of the score The scoring in the first half was on a fairly even basis but ln the last half the superior sharpshooters from Lewiston outdlstanced the locals CONY 24 GARDINER 17 After a first half that gave Cony a bl margin the ' Black Phantoms came back in the third but the jlnx that had followed them all season kept them from leading thelr old rivals That same inability to get a range on the basket was a big factor in dropping this game as it had been in so many games during the season GARDINER 19 LEWISTON 38 After fighting their way up from behind so that they were but 5 points behind at the start of the fourth period the orange and black collapsed IU the last period and the Blue Streaks continued their march to the southwestern Maine championship It was the same old story for Gardlner their in ab1l1ty to sink the apple spelled defeat GARDINER 14 CoNY 33 After a spirited first half which ended with Cony in the lead Gardiner slumped and Cony had things more or less her own way for the remainder of the game The rlvalry between At Lawrenceand Norm Merrill was interesting as the game pro gressed GARDINER 21 MoRsE 22 There was one minute to play and Gardl ner was one point behlnd It was a great chance for an orange and black player to turn a great battle into a great victory but although the play all took place under the Gardiner basket the several shots Gardiner took failed to bring the coveted two points and the Jinx again defeated the unlucky 1 s GARIMNER Z1 LAWRENCE 15 ln the last game of the season Gardiner defeated the Fairfield outfit on their own floor From a standpoint of games lost and won the season would not appear to be a success but regardless of this anyone who saw the boys in action knows that they were a clever team and that every game with the eicceptlon of one or two was a treat for a host of fans Capt At Law rence and Edwin Tyler did a splendid Job at guard with a capable man in Bub McLaughlin to relieve them should the oc casion demand Forest Rice at center was good both offensively and defenslvely and Stan Jones Gak Melindy and Stan Ellis the men who held down the two for ward berths will be missed when another season rolls around 32 T H L L q 4 C ' ' 3 . 9 rs 1 c T . l . .
