Sports Committee Left to right; Standing: Jim Luptak, Mr. Wayne Busse, George K ' assen, Howard Ginter, Ernie Doerksen, Larry Suderman, Dan Hildebrand, Robin Jackman, Ron Dyck, Ken Wiebe, Barry Peters, Victor Rempel, Gerald Redekopp, Albert Fehr, Gerald Thiessen, Terry Buhlin. Seated: Mr. Bill Willms, Garth Jackman, Nettie Froese, Lynn Wood, Mildred Elias (convener), Vicki Krahn, Viola Letkeman, Larry Luptak, Mr. Ed Falk. Sports Committee Report The extra-curricular sports began once again this year with a vigorous soccer programme. Our boys’ first game. Sept. 12, started a winning streak which ended five weeks and thirteen games later when they fell to defeat against Daniel Mac. in the provincial finals in Brandon. Girls’ volleyball practise got under way. Although being a fairly new team, the girls should be proud of the progress they made during the season. The boys’ volleyball team was organized somewhat later. They didn’t do as well as our team did in former years, but one must also take into consideration the fact that many of them took part in the soccer activities, while others have chosen to spend their time in developing a strong basketball team, instead. Both the teams lost out in the Zone 4 semi-finals. Our junior volleyball met Gretna for one set of games, and came out victorious! Basketball practise began shortly afterward. As usual, our boys were fantastic and won the Western Division and Zone 4 trophies, without a defeat. Glenn Wiebe claimed another first when he won the Most Valuable Player trophy. This year, for the first time a high school hockey schedule was drawn ud. Highlights of the season consisted of a trip to and a return game with Devil’s Lake. They lost to Miami in the Zone 4 finals. An after four curling schedule was drawn up. As well as sending 4 boys to the School-Boys’ Bonspiel in Winnipeg, we did well in our own two tournaments and the others held in the Zone. G.V.C.I. also had representatives at the Zone 4 badminton and ping-pong tournaments. Millie Elias Convener Compliments of J .raltn Jewellers Your Longine and Wittnauer Dealer Phone 325-8244 72
