At 9 o'clock the bell rang and an ambitious class of 27 girls and 36 boys assembled in our two home rooms. Vacation was just a dim memory as we settled down to a year of hard work, pranks and punishment that go along with the name UGreen Freshmenn. That was a thrilling year of math, science and English. We had our traditional Christmas party and then our Valentine party. Mrs. Jewell, our sponsor, journeyed with us in late May on a picnic to Mountain Top Lake. Yes, that year will linger long in our memory. Then a lovely day in May climaxed our UGreen Freshmenu Year. In September 1946, our Sophomore year brought to a close another vacation of daily swims and the favorite vacational pastimes of each individual. when the bell again summoned us to class with our sponsor, Miss Daisy Matney, our class had dwindled from fh5 to MZ. But nevertheless we were de- termined to make 'l9h6LN7 another successful year. The Sophomore Girls, dressed as Mexican Senoritas presented a floor show of dances and Mexican folk songs at the Junior- Senior Banquet. On a Saturday in late May, we went to Moun- tain Top Lake on our annual picnic. The final bell brought many happy sighs, for we were anticipating a long recess. We began our third high school term with many vacant seats due to. rriages. with Mrs. Quillen, our new sponsor, we began a veg? exciting term. We presented our Junior play, a three act comedy entitled UAunt Jerushy on the War- pathn, on May lh, l9H8. The plot revealed a worldly carni- val show coming to Fish Town. Aunt Jerushy, a very re- ligious woman who did not believe in such worldly affairs, went on the war path. up e., l And then came the long awaited activity ofthe year' the Junior-Senlor Banquet. On May 7, 1946, amld uragranm3tuses ln our HGarden of'MemoriesH, the Juniors and Seniors, in formal dress enjoyed a lovely dinner and dancing. A picnic at Hungry Mother's park brought to a close another eventful year. Finally on September 13, l9H8,this time with an enroll- ment of 29, we again met in our class room for the year of our lives, fpr this was the longed-for day when we would be seniors. came the da s of tedious work on the Garden Echo, Then y but we enjoyed the busy times of getting advertisements, pictures, and interviews and all that goes with the making of a year book. We also enjoyed publishing the paper each six weeks. March brought on the senior play Hwelcome Homeu. One of the outstanding highlights which we always look for- ward to was the Junior-Senior Banquet, sponsored by Mrs. Bertha Jones and Miss Inez Bamey. One of the happiest yet saddest events was Commencement. We the Senior Classvof 'H9 leave Garden High School with the thought, WAchievements Today Makes a Greater Tomorrown.
