District administration was reorganized for the 1956-57 school term. Two new officials were appointed to serve the two schools of the district. Mr. Myron Kirsch became director of health, welfare, and special education and Mr. William V. Hoping to bring about a lasting interest in history, to enhance students' ability to comprehend a series of suc- cessive events, and to improve the ability to visualize clearly overt acts of the historical scene, the department emphasized vocabulary terms, information concerning important persons, places, and dates in history, the ability to use books, skills in picture and map inter- pretation, and the actual making of maps. Girls on freshman and sophomore level were acquainted with a wide variety of activities and emphasis was laid on physical fitness. Juniors and seniors were permitted to specialize in activities ot their choice, keeping in mind the balance between team, individual sports, and rhythmic training. Due to lack of speed and weight the team didnt have a very successful season, winning one, tying one, and losing five How- ever, under the coaching of Mr. Bruce Smith and Mr, Roger Wilson, they gained much needed experience for the years to come. The Argonauts were very defensive minded and had the best defensive record in the league. Gary Davis again led the team as captain and high- point man. Probably the biggest upset of the season was The Argos' 54-48 win over league champion Newport Harbor, avenging an earlier 56-44 defeat.
