We Have Lost A Friend Each of us has friends. Each of us is a friend to others. Com- panionship is a part of living, of life itself. We are often so busy enjoying that companionship that we forget its meaning. Then suddenly that space within our lives which has been filled by a friend is vacant, and the value of the friendship strikes us with staggering force. We feel strangely drained, empty, scooped-out. That was the way we felt during that week of january 12, when we lost Julian Lathrop. Those of us who knew julian well will always remember his cheerful greeting, his friendly smile. We never knew him to be angry, we laughed at his casual humor, we laughed with him at the jokes of others. He shared our troubles willingly, and made us feel that he had no troubles of his own. But our lives continue, and even though julian has found peace, we must face strife. We will always treasure the memory of the years which we spent with him, and will be comforted by the knowledge that he is waiting for us at the end of the road.

Hawwm The 1955 MAST attempts to portray a day at Garden City High School: the activities, classes, faculty, sports, and social events. We hope that we have caught in words and pictures The Spirit of G. C. High. The purpose of a yearbook is to preserve the memories of school life so that in the future, when our recollections grow vague, we will have something to remind us of the wonderful times we experienced during our high school years. With this purpose in mind we present the 1953 MAST.
