The 1978 Homecoming Festival proved to be a great suc- cess. It started off with the Annual Homecoming Parade. Numerous floats and decorated cars were included in the procession. The Homecoming Court Representatives, Stu- dent Council Representatives, and the spirited Garber Band also paraded down the Essesxville streets in the light rain. There was no float competition because of the lack of judges. Following the parade came the Annual Pancake Sup- per sponsored by the Garber Athletic Association. For the many Garber and Ortonville fans who attended this all you can eat dinner, it proved to be a great success. Last, but not least, the Garber Football Game against the Ortonville Blackhawks resulted in a decisive victory for the Dukes, 36- 0, upping their record to a perfect 5-0! The announcement of the 1978 Duke and Duchess, Mark Vanderlooven and Mary Lu Goddeyne, was the climax of the halftime festivi- ties. The annual Homecoming Dance entitled Shimmering Reflections in Shades of Blue was an overall success for the many students and alumni who attended. These festivi- ties make Homecoming one of the most important and exciting events of the school year. 4
