It had caughl a glimpse of a waterfall as it wound its way through the woods. It saw how each drop of water united with every other and created a new life force — rushing on to a fuller stream. But why this time or place? Why did each of us as mere drops choose to form a new stream? — Both in ourselves and together, never- theless, we chose and we created. Each drop slowly began to absorb — in the classroom, at a lecture, on the corner, over a cup of coffee, on a stairwell, in a dis- cussion, through an article, a nod, a smile, or in a new book. 10 III in iii •••  • _ m a  imm 1 «. The winds of the storm make each drop of rain a sting- ing pellet. In the midst of specialization in a scientific age, the love of knowledge for its own sake — the life stream — is still flow- ing, but painfully. ■ . rff N, Pp- v t sia KI The drops of water are being analyzed chemically, but they know they need to be humanely treated so that not only their chemical components, but their being may be joined. 27 This is the stream of hope that flows in every man, that extends throughout the woods of life. We are searching for that natural force created through an under- standing of the depth of one's person, t he epochs of past history and of the future that we can create in a stream of life where each drop is itself and by being so creates a beautiful waterfall. 29 30 31 32  ma . « — 1 -LSf«T LlRSSi M 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 it ' 40 41 CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF TRUSTEES 48 MOST REVEREND ALFRED M WATSON PRESIDENT 49 RIGHT REVEREND MSGR. In an effort to add variety to the college's social life, Sheiks presents an opportunity for interested Gannon men to par- ticipate in an organization while expressing their individuality. The initial twenty-four members are striving to achieve a high degree of brotherhood while becoming an active part of the Gannon community. It is Gannon's smallest fraternity and was designed with that intention in mind. Its proud- est achievement is its scholastic proficiency; Alpha Phi Delta held the I.F.C. Scholastic Trophy for the past five years. Since this fraternity be- lieves in the total education of the in- dividual, a strong bond of brotherhood must prevail and flourish. In a sense, Alpha Phi Delta is restrictive and ex- clusive; for them membership is an honor, earned only by high standards of achievement. ALPHA PHI DELTA LINDA BROOKS n l, m Gammo Rho Chapter endeavors to uphold its trademark of the Fraternity of Engineered Leadership by assuming preemi- nence among its brother's fraternal organization, thus its exten- sive participation is in the activities of Gannon College. The Knights lost 3 lettermen through graduation and this was a fac- tor in their 3-9 record. The only return- ing letterman was Ken Lawrence who was injured for part of the season. Jerry Grygo and Tom Dwyer, who earned letters in 1969, also returned. Ken Scott, a freshman, was the top fin- isher for the harriers. Ken placed seventeenth in the Penn-Ohio Cham- pionship the last meet of the season. With the experience gained this season and only one runner graduating, next year's team should prove to be much tougher to beat. 136 In its second year, the soccer team was much improved, posting a 4-8 rec- ord. Statistically, improvement is also evident. The Golden Knight offense scored 16 goals as compared to 14 last year, and defensively the team al- lowed only 44 goals, a big improve- ment from 76 goals last year. The lead- ing scorer for the team was freshman Marco Rendic with 6 goals. Also during the season other scorers were John Harvey with 5, Mohammad Tavana with 2, and Tony Splendore, Bernie Nagle, and Jim Link each with one. Ron Thom- as, a freshman goalie, ended the sea- son with 233 saves. Astonishingly, there were eight freshman and three sophomores in the starting line-up. With no players being lost through graduation, the outlook for next year is very promising. 2 Oh ' 5 1 s 1 5 G 1 7 ! T ic q T'2 H [ 'VisVxX f ii Y i3 ] |S J i7 1 if J [ r 1 . Captain Quisenberry's squad was led by Dave Drabic who finished as the leagues seventh high- est scorer with a 254 point average. Mike D'Agos- tino owned the second highest average on the team 251.5. The high point of the season was the Bowling Green match because the team set two new Gan- non records. The Knights started the season with 5 straight wins and built a respectable 14-3 record until they were hit with three straight losses. The team's final record was 18-7. The Knights also lost the Gem City Bowl for the first time in its three-year history. The most memorable win was the squeaker win against Tennessee State 55-52. However, after mid-season, the loss of All-American Glen Summors, who was the top scorer and top rebounder, and Bob Baker, the Kni ghts' top playmaker. Losing their top stars, the team found new heroes to replace the old. The prominent figures in the new-look Knights were Mike Kennedy and Harry McLaughlin. Kennedy is a good ball handler as well as a top scorer. Mike's best performance was 27 points against San Francisco State. His driving layups are a sight to behold. Harry McLaughlin has also added to the scoring punch with his fine outside shot, and he is without a doubt the best passer on the team. Steve Young, Jim Redding, as well as the rest of the team have also helped in keeping the team consis- tent. The Golden Knights will be in deeper trouble after this season because of graduating seniors. Six of the thirteen players who started the season will graduate, including such Notables as Bob Baker, Ron Johnson, and Jim Lee. The Knights 12-8 mark surpasses the previous rec- ord for won-lost percentage set two years ago. The season included three doubleheader wins as well as a record seven straight wins which saw the Knights outscore their opponents 55-17. It should also be indicated that out of the eight games the team lost none of them were decided by a large margin. Six players hit .300 or better during the season: Frank Pattronrick, Paul Kazmierczak, GaryZaleski, Boyd Armstrong, Richard Logan and Mike Nuara. Richard Logan led these six with a .383 batting average. Mike Nuara supplied the Knights with power by banging out the most extra-base hits (6) and driving in the most runs (19). The team's .286 batting average was respectable. The pitching was the Knights strongest asset. Sophomore Steve Grilli led the staff by posting an excellent 5-1 record and a 0.69 earned run aver- age. Junior Larry Potash also had an outstanding earned run average (1.04) and also led the pitchers in strikeouts. Zelinko Sr. Despite the sundry difficulties which have befal- len this year's Lance the book has managed to ap- pear as it inevitably does every year. We hope that it reflects a continuation of the quality displayed in previous annuals. The 1970 Lance has attempted to capture something of the character of the campus and its surroundings, not only that of the physical plant but also the milieu about the college. Further, it has tried to trace the development of the student. Between freshman orientation and graduation the student undergoes many and varied changes that are difficult to pictorially portray. We trust, however, and hope you will concur that we have achieved at least moderate success in this respect. Special thanks are extended to John Walker. His sense of responsibility and willingness to work well beyond what his position of photographer required proved him to be a vital asset to this year's staff. Further, Mr. Dennis K. Renner, whose ability to de- flate seemingly insurmountable difficulties kept us from the brink of chaos on several occasions, has won our sincere gratitude. While we embark on a new decade which prom- ises to be faster paced and more feverish than the sixties, a yearbook may appear to be something of an anachronism. Some may consider it a vestige of, or vehicle for sentimentality. We hope, however, that there will still remain a few moments in the future to be devoted to the somewhat sentimental. We hope that the Lance will serve to recall a mem- ory or two. I I mini . .1 special pnm« nl lithographic   m I Killer I ik . Hot 1(152. Buffalo.
