Founder and Chancellor The dioceses of Erie and of the nation have come to know Archbishop John Mark Gannon as an outstanding leader in a multiplicity of endeavors. Without a doubt the most noticeable of his character- istics is that of a Master 1 )esigner and Builder. Archbishop Gannon has been a creator of dreams — great dreams of re- ligious and cultural development ; he has worked tirelessly in transforming these dreams into reality. In 1944 he sensed the need of a college where young men could prepare them- selves for their places in the world. Gan- non College, the Archbishop's Master Plan and a living tribute to his name, had a humble beginning in a three-storied man- sion. Since then the Archbishop has watched with loving eyes as Gannon has soared to 15 buildings housing some 1700 students from that meagre beginning 18 years ago. We are deeply grateful to Archbishop John Mark Gannon, Designer and Builder, for the foresight and initiative he has shown in developing his master plan. To him every Gannonite owes the deepest respect, humblest gratitude and manliest love. For through his intercession we can fulfill God's plan for us. 'III' fr ,- Most Reverend John Mark Gannon, Archbishop of Erie Auxiliary Bishop Secretary — Board of Trustees Most Reverend Edward P. McManaman, Auxiliary Bishop and Pro- Vicar General of the Diocese of Erie, was instru- mental in the founding of Gannon College, and now serves as secretary of the Board of Trustees. Nationally known for his interest in sound, progressive, Catholic education. Bishop McManaman has constantly striven for the ad- vancement of this principle here at Gannon. Throughout the history of the college, he has maintained a personal interest in many of the individual students and teachers, and has always given freely of his time and experience in order to develope a better Gannon College.
