DEDICATION Dean Gerald R. Kraus is playing one of the big roles in the development and progress of Gannon College. After receiving his degrees of Bachelor and Master of Sci- ence from Carnegie Institute of Technology, he came to Cathedral College in 1937. His service was interrupted here when he deverted his talents to industry. It was at this time that he founded the Kraus Manufacturing Com- pany. When Cathedral College dissolved and its assets became Gannon College, the new school had not long to wait be- fore Gerald Kraus returned. Here, outstanding skills as an educator and administrator marked him for his important role in promoting Gannon's progress. When, in 1955, a new reorganization of the College was announced, it was only to be expected that Professor Kraus would be included. With the establishment of the three di- visions of Gannon College, Mr. Kraus was named Dean of the Division of Pure and Applied Science. This appointment was all the more important because of the almost simul- taneous addition of an engineering curriculum to the school. Because of rare qualities of insight and ability to see the whole picture Dean Kraus has led his division to many achievements: graduates of Gannon's engineering depart- ment are widely sought; applicants to graduate schools from the departments of Biology and Chemistry are read- ily accepted. A fertile imagination, coupled with an inventive genius, has brought Dean Kraus and Gannon College to the at- tention of industry. Primarily a mathematician, he is widely known for his interest in and knowledge of all phases of the various sciences. Dean Kraus' contributions to Gannon's progress have not been merely those of an educator behind a desk, for he is also a member of various boards and committees about the school. He is a member of the President's Council, the Committee on Admissions, and the Advisory Council for the Department of Engineering. For long, devoted, and dedicated service to Gannon Col- lege, for an ability to give more to his students than merely what is in the book, and for his many contributions to Gannon's progress in the past, present, and future we dedicate the 1960 Lance to Dean Gerald R. Kraus. 13
