Four Tears In Retrospect In looking back on four years at Gannon College the Class of '52 realizes that it has been extremely fortunate. We have seen the college grow from the unsteadiness of childhood to the firmness of maturity; we have been in on the ground floor of the development of our college; we have seen it grow step by step to its acceptance as an accredited school; and we have been able to contribute our own efforts toward the creation of a college to which we can be proud to send our sons and grandsons. Events during the past four years have highlighted the growth of Gannon College. In 1948 we saw the inauguration of the first Reserve Officer Training Corps — Military Police Unit. Completion of the Auditorium— gymnasium oc- curred in 1949 and it opened with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine in Nc vember of that year. Earlier in the fall we saw the college field a football team which won 11 consecutive games over a two-year period. Financial difficulties and the tense international picture caused the curtailment of the sport. In May of 1951, six years after its founding by Bishop Gannon, we saw the college accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In rapid suc- cession came accreditation by The State Council of Education, The Board of Law Examiners of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The American Medical Associ- ation, and The Catholic University of America. Also we saw the growth of extra-curricular activities at Gannon and help' ed spur them on by our participation. We saw the organization and development of the O.F.T., the I.R.C., the I.C.G., the N.F.C.C.S., the C.S.A., the Provost Corps, the Spanish Club, the Lucians, and more recently, the Science Club. In addition we followed The Gannon- Knight as it developed into an intelligent, well- written weekly paper; we saw the Student Council begin to assert itself as the voice of the student body; we attended the first Junior Prom in February of 1949 and the first Military Ball in April of the same year, watching these dances grow to be school tradition; and we saw the development of an intramural program which received the support of the student body. For most of us the time has gone much too fast; but we can leave secure in the knowledge that our four years at Gannon have left their mark on us, and that their influence will enrich our future lives.
