S ENIOR HISTO Twelve stud1ous m1nded 'tots' started school an September 1935 w1th Mrs Lambert as the1r teacher They were EVELYN MARESH, MARLENE SMITH, PAUL BOEPPLE, BETTY JOYCE KOLLAJA, WIIMA LOW ROSS, BENNIE PETRASH GEORGE BROTHERS, FAY MAHONEY, JOHNNIE LEE KOENNING, ZULABELLE MACON, DOROTHY TUPA, and EVELYN HAHN We took the follow1ng subjects, read1ng wr1t1ng, ar1thmet1c, and drawing In the second grade MARIAN JAAP, and MARY JOY GANDY jo1ned our throng, taught by Mrs Jordon That year w1th the help and cooperat1on of our class we made a lovely flower garden for the annual exh1b1t Many of us also Jo1ned the WRhythm Bandu and played for many programs and contests In the th1rd grade we had only one new member, PAULINE GOODMAN Under the superv1s1on of Mrs Head we learned many new thxngs such as more advanced ar1thmet1c maklng posters, hav1ng spellang matches and study1ng geography for the f1rst years The second semester of th1s year each pup1l made a toy house wh1ch h pa1nted and furn1shed From th1s group Mrs Head chose the prettxest and best constructed one, w1th GEORGE CHAPAK w1nn1ng f1rst pr1ze In the fourth grade, H1ss Ann Ross taught us Our class was slowly grow1ng larger Four new members enrolled, these be1ng MARVIN KRESTA, CASIMIR STEPHANY, DELLA DEE GOFF, and WILLIAM BARKER In the flfth grade M1ss Da1sy janaca, who made us Wwalk the chalk l1neN but whom we all l1ked, sponsored the class that was pr0gre3g1ng year by year We receaved JACK STEWART 1nto our class and lost GEORGE BROTHERS and JOHNNIE LEE KOENNING and lost one, FAY MAHONEY whom we hated to see g M McFarland was 1D an acc1dent and was unable to teach us for about three weeks dur1ng wh1ch t1me Mrs Lavon1a Ross subst1tuted for h1m Dur1ng h1s conf1ne ment we all wrote h1m letters keep1ng h1m 1nformed on our progress The Ganado Band was organazed th1s year and several from our classbought 1nstruments and took an act1ve part ll the band, wh1ch cons1sted of about twenty members In 1941 the twelve grade system was put 1nto effect and we were advanced from the sxxth to the elghth grade wxthhhss Gammenthaler as our Sponsor We recexved four new members, JOE BAILEY STEPHENSON, LOUISE MCCOLLOCH, BOBBY JOE FLEEMAN, and WINFRED MARTIN We lost f1ve pup1ls, DUDLEY PURSEWELL, DOROTHY TUPA, EVELYN HAHN, GEORGE CHAPAK and GEORGE HAJOVSKY Th1s year we completed our grammar school educatxon and 1h 1942, e1ghteen green, sl1my f1sh swam upstream for more educatxon 1h the n1nth grade Th1s was the last e1ghth grade graduat1on at whach Sup er1ntendent Hollenshead was present as he was called to the Navy the follow1ng year We all hated to b1d h1m farewell because we had enjoyed h1s compan1onsh1p all the years we had attended school Our graduat1on exerc1ses began w1th the s1ng1ng of W0 Columb1a the Gem of the Oceann We only regretted that one of our fellow graduates, BENNIE PETRASH was not able to be present because of 1llness Thxs year Superxntendent Compton was called to the Navy as was our former Superantendent, Mr Hollenshead Bnter1ng the n1nth grade, we welcomed two new classmates WILLIE . . , , 7 . . 7 . . . . . e A . 1 . - In the sixth grade we had only one new member, DUDLEY PURSEWELL, o. r.
