SWHRTS The basketball season for the year 1949 50 was very successful considering that only two regular first team men were back with us this year They were Gene Philllps and Donald Downing le had some good men to take the places of those that graduated Charles New port, a sophomore, filled one of the guard positions Duane Copass also a sophomore, took the position as center Franklin Holland, a Junior, fllled the other forward position along with Phill1ps,until he rece1ved a leg lngury which caused him to miss several games E Bartley and Proffitt did a swell Job as substitutes THE INDIVIDUAL SCORES WERE AS FCLLOWSS Phillips Downing Newport Copass Patterson E Proffitt H Proffitt Holland Cross Bartley Payne England Bray Geralds Lee Howard 18 275 270 OO F' P U1 32282 The Gamaliel basketball squad was coached by Edward Agere Coach Agers attended Lindsey Wilson College two years before the war After returnlng from service he entered Tennessee Tech where he graduated in August, 1949 He received his B S in Health and Physical Edu cation at Tennessee Tech , and received a letter in Basketball t both Colleges This was his first year as Coach and he did an cellent Job The T1gers scored a total of 1258 points, making an average of 44 3 points per game They were victors of eight games out of the twenty eight they played this season The Kittens scored a total of 590 points during the season The Kittens were victors of ten games out of the twenty five they played WTUGERS I .
