CLASS HISTORY A There have been six great events in the history of this world. The first was the appearance of Adam and Eve. The second was the rise of King Tut. The third was the death of Julius Caesar. The fourth was the crossing of the Atlantic by olumbus. The fifth was the reign of Jack Dempsy. And the sixth L 'as the entrance of the class of 1946 into Gamaliel High School. Of these the first five were of minor importance. Adam :nd Eve, I believe, are now dead. King Tut is in a museum ulius Caesar has been eclipsed by Mussolini. Columbus has now oved to Ohio. And Jack Dempsy is just a faded cauliflower he class of 1946 not only is history, but is still making his In August, 1942, thirty nine meek, frightened freshmen irst year Mrs. Harry Turner was our sponsor. Many exciting hings happened during that year, but the greatest event happened n the spring of '43 when we were the winners of the Red Cross rive held by the school. Before that, and still, we have had he name of being the most industrious class in school Our officers for that year were: President...............Roger Taylor Presnoqaooo On6EZel1 Sec.and Treas. . . . . . . . . . .Algerine Hammer In August of '43, as we once more assembled together with . Harold Smith as sponsor, who was later replaced by Mrs. Ivan edigo, our class had decreased but still was the largest class n school. George Austin, Harlin Reagan, Marjorie Brandon, and elda Bartley Joined us that year while we lost Anna Kate Ham- , er, Carrie B. Holloway, Arena Kerr, Bill Collins , Mary Catherin: ee, Kermit Copass and Ezell Miller. During that year, Bill, , ermit, and Calvin Goad answered the call of their country. All ' hree went into the Navy. Again we were winners! The first , :emester we sold more subscriptions for the school paper than 19: .ny other class, and the second semester we sold more bonds dur- . b A ng the fourth war bond drive. It was at the last of this year !51i ' hat Mildred Garmon broke the sad news of her marriage to Roger Q Duncan and left us for the remainder of the year. Also, Maxine 'M' ssell, Dema Smalling, Wilma Brooks and Wallace Bean decided K hat other things were more important than coming to school. x . :J A I .
