Charlie Daniels 33 MEMORIES ... of the Way We Were The Class of ’81 Mrs. Staber For the past 13 years, Mrs. Jane Staber has watched her very first class go through school. She has seen them start out as little tots chasing each other around the playground to what they have become now — young adults ready to face the world. Mrs. Staber began teaching at Galway in September, 1969 and taught a kindergarten class which consisted of many of the current members of the Class of ’81. Mrs. Staber also taught many of this year’s Seniors later on in third grade when she moved up to being a third grade teacher. Although third grade was the last time she taught our class, she has kept in touch with us in different ways ever since — especially through cheering. Mrs. Staber’s enthusiasm, personality, helpfulness, concern, and love for her students will always be greatly appreciated and never forgotten. Now that she is seeing her original class graduate, those of us who had the pleasure of having her as a teacher or coming in contact with her in the past 13 years, would like to thank her for her help in educating us and being a special teacher and friend to us all. The hours fly swiftly, and the need That presses on your fellowman May fade away at equal speed And you may sigh before the end That you have failed to play the friend. Not all life's pride is born of fame; Not all the joy from work is won. Too late we hang our heads in shame. Remembering good we could have done; Too late we wish that we had stayed To comfort those who called for aid. Take time to do the little things Which leave the satisfactory thought. When other joys have taken wings, That we have labored as we ought; That in a world where all contend, We often stopped to be a friend. Edgar A. Guest JUNIOR Row 1: G. Myers. J. Terry. R. Tobey, K. In the Spring of 1980 Galway went against Niskayuna in an Answers Please competition broadcast on WRGB-Channel 6 T.V. In order to pick the best academic students for the team, we had our own competition between grades 9-12. There were three rounds of play with the Sophomores first beating the Seniors, then the Juniors beating the Freshmen, and in the final round, the Sophomores were victorious over the Juniors!! Mr. Rhodes questions the contestants. But, although the Sophomore team won the overall competition, all the students from all the teams were judged and the ones with the most CORRECT answers were chosen to be on television, and they were: Bitty Gaines — Senior, Beth Toolan — Sophomore, Kelly Curtiss — Sophomore, Mark Westa — Freshman, and as an alternate, Anne Westa — Junior. Although Niskayuna beat Galway in the contest, our team did a splendid job, and they had many Galway fans in the television audience to cheer them on! Also, a special thanks to Mr. Rhodes for organization and judging of the whole event. 121 ONE ACT PLAY CONTEST Sophomore Class takes 1st with “GAMES” Directed by Mrs. Kalinkewicz Senior Class takes 2nd with “ALMOST THE BRIDE OF DRACULA” Directed by Miss Cervenka and Vernon Wetmore 123 Freshman Class presents “THE CAPRICIOUS PEARLS” Directed by Mr. Pagano BEST ACTOR HONORABLE MENTION — BESTACTOR Keith Heflin Sophomore BEST ACTRESS Julie Vanderhorst Freshman Honorable Mention — BESTACTRESS Honorable Mention — BESTACTRESS Kelly Curtiss Junior Denise Dygert Freshman 125 BEHIND THE SCENES Bill Pnbis — Trombone. My favorite class. Knock on wood! This is such fun. GOTCHA Janice Don’t cheat off MY paper. WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Outside the sky is water color grey, Newspaper says to look for rain today. No one around for company, and so I turn to memories to pass the time away. Each face that flashes back to mind Seems as it was, untouched by time. I can’t recall quite all the names, Each one is precious all the same. How strange to think how many friends were lost somewhere behind. Where are they now? How I miss those companions Who walked the canyons of the night by my side. Where are they now? Like so many crazy dancers We live only for the answers in a song. But that was long ago... Where are they now? When love was new and wonderful There was no word “impossible.” The future we saw with our minds Was something of our heart’s design. Between today and yesterday, Life came between us all. Wher are they now? 130 REMEMBER... HOSTAGES come HOME I •ft C Zy THE POOD fic-ht 0SoSW that never was 0Ne ,ACT „ .
