Such a person, who devotes much of her spare time to helping others, and who freely gives of whatever she has, certainly deserves recognition. Having the ability to look on the brighter side of life, to have a smile for everything and everyone, and to be there whenever needed, are only a few of the qualities that make up this person’s outstanding personality. She is one whose sincerity you will never doubt, whose dependability will never falter, and whose willingness to help others will never cease. As advisor of Future Teachers of America and former advisor of Junior High Student Council, we feel that our choice has done more than her share, for not only is she a very good teacher and advisor, but also a true friend. It is with great pleasure that the staff of the 1976 Galway yearbook proudly dedicates it's '76 Piper to Galway's only female math teacher, sometimes known as ”grandma, to Mrs. Dorothy Wert. 3 4 fable op C0jAml Openwg Section 5-10 (routes Kmcalons Uikrclassmcn 51 AihleKcs XI Orjayfeatbns A D lSWJfJs 10-152 On this long path we've trod for 13 years . . . MOST CLASS SPIRIT Class MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED TRICIA and STEVE KENDA and STEVE PRISCILLA and EARL CLASS FLIRTS MIKE and DONNA MOST ATHLETIC ''' “ ‘ ■ CLASS CLOWNS TOM and PRISCILLA 36 CHATTERBOXES Favorites NICEST PERSONALITY TOM and MELODY CHARLIE and MERRY PARTY-GOERS CLASS OF'76 MOST SHY JEANNE and JEFF FAVORITE UNDERCLASSMEN DIANE LACHTRUPP and FRED MILLIAS 37 Class Prophecy It is 1986, and Galway's illustrious class of '76 is going to have its ten year reunion. And what better place to have the reunion, than on board millionaire-playboy TOM SMITH’S yacht, the S.S. Galway,” which is anchored on Galway Lake. As we walk up the gangplank, we are greeted by professional hostess, MELODY BISHOP, who ushers us inside. Aboard we see JIM VROMAN, Tom's bartender and personal body guard. Jim was afraid that tonight's crowd would be too much to handle, but MIKE PALMATEER has graciously consented to lend a hand at the bar. In comes Tom himself, surrounded by his personal staff, TOBY EATON, CINDY PALMATEER, and PRISCILLA SCOTT. Tom has been discussing a merger with oil tycoon TIM FLINTON, who is a bit skeptical about mixing his billions with Tom's. Suddenly there is a terrible noise outside. It seems drag racer CHARLIE KOENIG has refused to yield the right of way to cross country truckers JOHN DROPPER and GREG DORA in their Peter-Built rig. Charlie's Corvette has been damaged, but ace mechanics RAY WOLTMAN and DAN DiDONNA will patch it up in no time. Back aboard ship, a real crowd is gathering, and waitresses DORIS MUNCHBACK, DEBBIE SEELOW, and PATTY LAWRENCE are having a hard time seating everyone. Looking around, we see many of the old gang. Novelist STEVE BOTSFORD is trying to persuade book publisher MERRY PALMER to print his new book: HOW TO BE QUIET IN A LIBRARY, but Merry is not interested. Undaunted, he asks the editor of the GALWAY GAZETTE, KENDA CLIFFORD to have it published in serial form. Kenda wisely refuses. There is a sudden silence. The mayor of Galway, DEBBIE WATROBSKI has entered the room. She is followed closely by her staff, JOANNE PICKNEY, CAROL BOEDECKER, SANDIE SOWLE, and DEBBIE DEGRAFF. The mayor’s hair is getting a lot of looks, and why shouldn't it? It was done by Galway's finest beauticians, DONNA MILLIAS and DORRIE SCHAPERJAHN. On deck, photographer BILL DENKER is taking pictures of Galway's finest athletes: DON BATES, winner of the PGA pro tour; soccer star EARL CHASE; Cy Young award winner MIKE SIVIK; and basketball star TOM BENWARE. Artist TRICIA MURPHY is complaining that the flash from Bill's camera is distracting her while she tries to paint a portrait of KIETH WILKINS, Nobel Prize winner, and part-time basketball coach. Policeman TOM REYNOLDS intervenes before a fight develops. Galway's own ambassador to Poland, JIM MROCZKO, has just arrived on JEANNE TOAL'S private airline. Jim said he enjoyed the flight, thanks to Galway's finest stewardesses, TERRY JENDREJCZAK, CAROL OLSEN, PEGGY SOWLE, and LAURA WELLS STANTON. ERIC SCHMIDT'S construction crew of DAVID LUKE, DOUG DE RIDDER, and electrician FRANK ORAPELLO is trying to convince farmer ROGER ARNOLD to turn his apple farm into a housing development. Roger however, is more interested in the discussion between Rev. ARTHUR GAURA and evangelist BILL CAREY over the color of Noah's eyes. The discussion ends with a compromise; one eye brown and one blue. 38 Over at the bar, forest ranger KATHEE SHOUTIS is trying to convince mountain climber STEVE TRUSEDALE not to climb Mt. Galway. SUE B1XBY, the head of the Galway's forest preserve, also tries to convince Steve of the danger of the task. Their arguments are supplemented when botanist SUE HARBLIN points out all of the poisonous plants that abound the area. Steve is finally convinced by big-game hunter, CHARLIE HORNING, with his tales of danger in the wilds of Galway’s woods. Army general KEVIN SMITH is arguing with Navy admiral JEFF JAMESON over which branch of the service is better. Their argument is ended by ever resourceful KIM SEBAST, school teacher, who points out that it is not what you belong to, it’s how you do your job that counts. There is a noise on deck! it seems MIKE O’BOYLE has fallen overboard, but Galway s own paramedic, GRANT EATON, jumps in and saves him. As soon as he is on deck, Doctor PEGGY OLENDORF and nurse KIM BOWERS render first aid. Mike claims he saw a shark! The shark turns out to be oceanographer DAVE SIVIK, clad in a wet suit, who was out searching for the Loch Galway Monster. All he found, however, was an old 1976 yearbook, and everyone busily peers through the pages, reminiscing about all the fun we had way back when . . . 39 Un Soir d'Amour THE QUEEN AND HER COURT L to R: Matt and Sandie Sowle, Gary Christensen and Debbie Watrobski, Dave Sivik and Terry Jendrzejczak, Steve Milan and Queen Dorrie Schaperjahn, Joe Collins and Tricia Murphy, Kathee Shoutis and Bill Hartman, Donna Millias and Eric Schmidt. Do you get what you're open for? When you look behind you there's no open door What are you open for? Do you know? Once we were standing still in time chasing the fantasies that filled our minds you knew how I loved you but my spirit was free laughing at the questions that you once asked of me. Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Now looking back at all we've had we let so many dreams just slip through our hands why must we wait so long before we see how sad the answers to those questions can be? Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Do you get what you're open for?
