- f'fw We, the class of 1959, dedicate our yearbook, the Galway Piper, to our school. School is the place where we spend a good share of our time. The teachers all know that we do not always use this time constructively, but even so we have many good times together. Although we take our school days for granted now. we know that in years to come they will leave us with many happy and unforgettable memories. As the picture below suggests, there will soon be a new school. We hope that this new school will bring as much pleasure to its students as our school has to us. Headquarters Yum, yum Oops, the thumb We, as co-editors, would like to thank everyone who worked on the yearbook and helped to make it a success. The whole class worked on it and they enjoyed it very much. Even though it was hard work, it was fun and now that it is finished, we can look with pride on our work. When our class started work on our yearbook last spring, the weather was very hot and sultry. We worked hard to finish enough pages to get the colored picture you see in the front. We hope you like it. They just don't balance Kurt Kilmer (to his teacher): Mrs. Schwarz, I et seven eggs for supper last night. Mrs. Schwarz: Ate, Kurt. Kurt: No, I only et seven. Mrs. Schwarz: Ate. Kurt: Well, maybe it was eight eggs I et. Mr. Griesemer: I am going to give you a sentence which I want you to correct: It was me that busted the window. Dick Jackson: It wasn't me that busted the window. Mr. Gorga (while giving talk on the importance of milk): Bruce! name six things that have milk in them? B. Millington: Hot chocolate, ice cream, pudding - and three cows. Mr. Mottau: I've been feeling kind of run-down lately and I've been taking vitamin pills. But they seem to help me. Druggist: Maybe it's your diet. What do you eat?” Mr. Mottau: Oh, do you have to eat when you take vita min pills. Mr. Sutton: If you have $10 in one pocket and $15 in the other, what would you have? M. Sears: I’d have someone else's pants on. Miss Halloran: Hello. Sailor: - - - Miss Halloran: Oh, well. Mr. Sengenberger: Don, will you please name two ancient sports. D. Bradshaw: Anthony and Cleopatra The publication of this yearbook like all of your public high school experiences is part of your preparation as a future citizen. It is hoped that your education in the Galway Central School has enabled you to develop yourselves so that you may better serve mankind. Charles H. Field Principal Clayton Brown District Superintendent To the Galway Seniors of 1958. The joys of childhood and high school are a thing of the past. Their memory will last forever. Time is fleeting. Do not hesitate. Prepare yourself the better to serve your God and fel-lowman. Be not contented to have only a wishbone ; develop a good strong backbone.” Go as far as truth and fair play can take you. Be triumphant before the greatest challenges the world has ever known. Class History In the fall of '54, an assortment of 40 young students found themselves in their first year of senior high, and thus our freshman class launched its beginnings in the functions of this higher and all-important stage of our education. In March of the next year, our sophomores put on a card party which turned out to be one of the most successful in years, and it was our first big enterprise! In preparation for the coming year we elected our junior class officers: President, Gary McChesney; Vice President, Mary Eaton; Treasurer, Joanne Jacobs; and Secretary, Marianne Adamoschek; and Peggy Link and Carole Sherman were selected as co-editors of our yearbook. To end the year on a good note, our sophomores appeared at the ball park in Schenectady to cheer on the Schenectady Blue-Jays. Once we entered as the junior class in 56, nothing could hold us back. With our class officers and yearbook staff previously selected, Fred Sanders and Linda Champagne representing us on Student Council, and Miss Blessing as our very capable advisor, we could leap into our activities headlong, and we did just that! The first dance of fall was Autumn Leaves, sponsored by our junior class. The class rings were ordered early and their arrival in November was heartily welcomed and cheered. Basketball season that year saw our juniors behind the cafeteria counter selling refreshments. (We thoroughly enjoyed catching our advisor after a game one night pushing a large mop!) We were proud of the showing made by Fred Sanders and Richard Sherman in those games. We were very enthusiastic about our yearbook, giving it new features and putting our best into it. Between yearbook deadlines, we put on another dance Eleventh Heaven, after which we began concentrating on the Starlight Waltz, our Junior Prom. That May, it was a very transformed auditorium, for that special event when Peggy Link was chosen Queen of the Junior Prom. Then the long wait ended, our yearbook, proudly dedicated to Miss Blessing, had arrived! We were bursting with pride over this achievement and considered it the best ever published in Galway. Our very active year was then concluded at the Junior-Senior banquet. Here we are in our Senior year with a full schedule ahead, with officers as follows: President, Gary McChesney; Vice President, Anita Gunderson; Treasurer, Joanne Jacobs; Secretary, Marianne Adamoschek; Student Council, Linda Champagne and Bruce Millington. Class Prophecy A space ship is making ready for take off at a space port on Pluto. The ship belongs to the Interplanetary Guided Tour Agency. Here comes the passenger, a grey headed old woman by the name of Miss Blessing. As she seats herself in the transparent ship, a voice sounds. Good morning. In front of you,you will see a list of the stops on our trip. If you are ready we will take off immediately. The ship flies off, after a few jounces, and in a little while the voice says, At the right you will see the Universal Conservatory of Science. This is the headquarters of the famous scientist, Stanley Jackowski, who has just attained infinity. In the Western wing you can see Bruce Carlton hunched over his plans for the collapsible rocket ship. The space bubble you see floating in contains Richard Jackson, the official counter of stars. The large group of people you see there are listening to the famed lecturer, Joanne Jacobs. Sue Morack is the operator of that huge machine which records all the facts which happen in the universe. Professor Richard Sherman sorts these facts and prepares lectures on them. ” With these words, the space ship digs out leaving a trail of vapor. The poor passenger recovers herself just in time, for again the voice speaks. We are now passing one of Jupiter’s moons, which is being transformed for a party by the famous decorator Linda Rohling. Soon we will be passing the sports center on Saturn. The rings will look uncommonly colorful because Marianne Adamoschek is touching them up for the track meet at which Fred Sanders is our representative from Pluto and the favorite to win. Just below us is a menagerie. This is one of the pet projects of Linda Champagne who married a trillionaire from a little known place called Texas. Garry Fuller captures these animals from the far corners of the universe and brings them back to captivity to be bred by Joan Hoyle. The ship dives suddenly. That was Gary McChesney, the President of the Interplanetary Nations that just missed us. His interpreter, Marilyn Nelson, was piloting. See that bright light overhead? That is the sign that Carole Sherman and Peggy Link have resumed their positions at the Pearly Gates and will be glad to register any visitors. We will pass by Venus on our way, the final stop. If you search carefully you will see Elaine Gavaletz teaching a dance called a jitterbug to the goddesses. Our final stop will be at a restaurant owned by Mary Eaton's fifteenth husband. The cook, Priscilla Quinn, specializes in unusual foods such as spaghetti and pizza. She keeps her assistant Bruce Millington busy looking for the strange ingredients. Here we are now! The ship approaching is transporting Donald Springer with a load of milk collected from the Milky Way. The passenger loses her hat in a series of bangs, bounces, and shakes. Well, this is it! I hope you enjoy it. The entertainment today is very interesting. It consists of a ballad singer, Barbara Pashley, and an artist, Bonnie Dovhan. Take an extra look at that chorus girl, Anita Gundersen. And tell Bertha Whitney, the girl who sells perfumed cigars, that Don Bradshaw says hello. ” And with these words the ship fairly leaped off the ground in pursuit of a passing meteor.
