Class History We, the class of '54, entered the freshman ranks four short years ago with 23 members. We were busy getting acquainted with high-school so we didn't do much in the line of class activities. We didn’t elect any class officers but our Student Council members were Joan Landry and James Mansfield. Later in the year, James Mansfield was replaced by Ross Christie. In our sophomore year, our membership dropped to 21, but that year we gained two new members: Shirley Van Vranken and Brian Mooney. We didn't elect any officers this year, either. Our Student Council members were Joan Landry and Raymond Sherman. This was an uneventful year for activities too. However, it was our last year in the old school and we were all eagerly waiting to go to school in the new modern building which was now being built. In the spring Doug Van Wagenen joined us. When we entered our junior year we were 19 in membership. We lost some old members but gained one new member, Shirley Palmateer. We elected our class officers: president, James Mansfield; vice president, Beverly Keller; secretary, Doug Van Wagenen; treasurer, Judith Morehouse. Our student council members were Joan Landry and Ross Christie. This year we made up for our inactivity in the two previous years. The first big event of this year was ordering our class rings which we received in March. We sold refreshments at all home basketball games and we held an Old-Fashioned Square Dance in April. Our biggest job was publishing our Galway Piper. In June, we held our Junior Prom. By spring we had lost two members reducing our class to 17. Finally, we advanced into the next class and became what is known as seniors. This year is our last and it is hard to believe. Two of our members left us, and Helen Traver joined us, so now we have 16. We have elected officers: president, Lois Wood; vice president, Brian Mooney; treasurer, Judith Morehouse; and secretary, Doug Van Wagnen. Emma Fuller and Ross Christie are Student Council members. We have already held a spaghetti supper in December and expect to be quite busy the rest of the year. By the end of March, we expect to have raised enough money to go on our long awaited Washington trip in April. Then in June we graduate. To us graduating will be an added honor because we will be the largest graduating class since 1935. It will also be a time when we will look back and remember all the fun and troubles we have had; the education we received, especially in the new building; and our friends and teachers. So long, and good luck to the Class of '55, and to the classes that will be following the paths of our class of '54. Class Will We, the class of '54, being of SOUND MIND do hereby make our class will, I, Jim Arnold, leave my CAR to Harold Funk. I hope it runs for you. I, Lois Wood, leave my position as Senior Class President to anyone who is capable of handling the job. I, Pete Wintersteen, leave my blue turtle neck sweater to Carolyn Boerenko. Galway.Central Yorkers are part of a state-wide organization which forms the junior branch of New York State Historical Association. The purpose of each local chapter is to find out as much as it can about the history of its own local community and to tell that story in interesting ways to others. Yorkers take trips, put on plays, develop museums and preserve valuable historical places in the community. Yorkers have their own magazine, The Yorker, ” and participate in District Jamborees and a State Convention each year. Galway Central Yorkers, though young, have achieved considerable distinction. At the State Convention last year one of the three coveted trophies for achievement was awarded to the Galway Yorkers. In November of this year, our chapters were invited to put on a demonstration program at the Herkimer County Teachers' Conference. In all their activities Galway Yorkers prove the truth of the State Yorker motto, History can be fun! Camera Club Sanders, Palmateer, Smith, Dovhan. Lachtrupp, Cusson, Kronsbein, Funk, Mr. Sutton.
