CLASS PROPHECY Gather 'round, my friends, and climb upon my magic carpet, while we take a trip into the future and see what has happened to the class of '53. As we circle over the Mississippi, we spy a houseboat stuck in the mud. A closer look shows us STAC1A standing on the deck. We never thought BILL'S going into the navy would make you go up the river, Stay! Approaching West Milton, we hear an awful noise coming from the Grange Hall. Ah, ha! I knew it. MARLENE is now a square dance teacher and she's doing As We Go Marching to Georgia. They sound like they're taking it seriously. That place down yonder is UCLA. Guess who's head coach there now? None other than DICK MANSFIELD. His team has won the national basketball and football championships, and is now on their way to capturing the tiddly-wink cup. We knew you'd be a success, Dick! In Los Angeles we find BETTY hard at work keeping the records for the So Long Chinese Import Co. Betty always claimed Mrs. Fahey's bookkeeping would pay off, and she was so right. Flying low over New York enables us to find ANNA MANAS. All she ever wanted to be was a lil ol' medical secretary, and here she is a famous brain surgeon. Anna often goes to Madison Square Garden to watch her favorite basketball star playing with the Minneapolis Fakers. She admits that he looks slightly peculiar running around on stilts, but it was the only way EDDIE could find to solve the problem of getting to be 6' 6”! Now we're heading south over Brazil, for that’s where DANNY is. He graduated with such high honors from his night school auto mechanics’ course, that he invented a car with a new kind of motor. The only thing he forgot was a way to stop it, so his trial run took him this far. We don't find him complaining, though! Must be the good food. Finding ourselves quite tired, we decide to start for home, with one last stop at Barkersville. Hang on to your seats; the air is getting bumpy. I wonder... Oh, oh, I knew it! BARBARA is running a chicken farm, and the air is bumpy from the giggles coming up from the hen houses. She even has the chickens doing it now. Barb makes a nice profit selling her fowls to her old school chum, HELEN, who is now managing Packer's store. Helen has made quite a few improvements, too. There's a gadget that grabs people as they go by, pulls them inside, gives them six boxes of Little Crunchies, takes three dollars out of their pocket, and throws them outside again. We always knew you had a good head for business, Helen! As we climb off our magic carpet, you may be wondering what has happened to SHERRY. Well, who do you think was steering our carpet? Once a wizard,” always a wizard ! And so we find that the class of '53 has certainly fulfilled all the prophecies made about them way back in the early twentieth century. Now our guide must leave us, for more classes are approaching for a look into the future.
