Here we find Carol Reagan running regular rates at Reagan’s Rumbling Roller Rink. We guessed this would happen after seeing Reag’s snazzy exhibitions at Healy's Rink, Perth, New York. Ah-h-h now we see Chuck Sherman operating a big dairy farm. After chores we find him racing at the Menand's Speedway where he has already won three loving cups and one loving girl. 0 I see Barbara Snyder, chief carpenter in the Galway Building and Supply Company. Her apptitude tests foretold us of her great mechanical ability. Whiz-z-z---there go Nellie and her man flying over the hills in their new jetmobile. A little more exciting and dangerous than riding on a certain blue Harley Davidson, eh Nell? As we approach the Knolls Laboratory at Niskayuna, New York, we see Thomas Cwiakala, President of the G. E. Thomas, was appointed President because of his outstanding invention, the ultra-violet, atomic ray-o-matic gun. This is so simple that even Flash Gordon can operate it. Robert Stangle is now private secretary to Eleanor Roosevelt. His business training at Galway Central enabled him to apply for this job and win it against such stiff competition. Splash! Here we are at Boshart’s Beach for Bathing Beauties located at Cummings Pond. June has made this pond over into a fabulous resort where people come from all over the world to view the Galway beauties, (ha! Ha!) Mert Suss is now running Madame Blimpo’s reducing salon. Mert prescribes the diet which worked so well for her in G. C. S. Nothing but pie, cake, ice cream, candy and potato chips with a little gum on the side. Eina Conde is now owner of the Mil-Rock Dude Ranch. Her experience with horses has paid off very well. Ronald Edwards is now captain of a hockey team composed of midgets. This team attracts large crowds to Galway Lake during the winter months. The success of this team has turned Galway into a large winter resort. Bertha Shoutis is seen singing major parts at the Metropolitan Opera where she has replaced such famous stars as Rise Stevens and Lily Pons. Bud Hansen just couldn’t leave Galway Central. He has become head of the Mathematics department of this huge Central school after Mr. Sutton’s retirement. Bud always was a whiz at higher mathematics. Eleanor Bezio is now running the Bezio Auto Court, a high class motel which overlooks scenic Galway Lake. I, Madame Zaza, see the Class of ’51 successful in all their enterprises as well as the future classes who will graduate from Galway Central. 12 Galway Mosts Sweetest Smile--Anna Manas Heartiest Laugh--Edward Schaperjohn Best Athlete, Boy--Robert Stangle Best Athlete, Girl--Donna Faber Girl Most Likely to Succeed--June Boshart Boy Most Likely to Succeed--Thomas Cwiakala Most Industrious—Charles Sherman Best Girl Dancer —Barbara Snyder Best Boy Oancer--Thomas Cwiakala Cutest Girl--Reta Reichel Muscles Girl--Lillian Yonych Muscles Boy--Edward Schaperjohn Wittiest Girl--Sherry Stockheim Wittiest Boy--Charles Quinlan Best Girl Blusher--Barbara Suss Best Boy Blusher--Charles Sherman Happy-Go-Lucky Girl — Barbara Snyder Happy-Go-Lucky Boy—Earl Hansen Girl With Prettiest Hair—Reta Reichel Boy With Nicest Hair--Charles Sherman Galway Wolf--Richard Mansfield Girl With Worst Temper--Nellie Morey Boy With Worst Temper--Nelson Reichel Girl Chatterbox--Roxie Williams Boy Chatter box--Donald Wolfe Quietest Girl--Eleanor Bezio Quietest Boy--Cecil Armer Neatest Girl--Stacia Walkowicz Neatest Boy--Milton Lendl Prettiest Eyes, Girl--June Boshart Prettiest Eyes, Boy--Nelson Reichel Bashful Boy--Donald Ternes Bashful Girl--Helen Wilcox Silliest Girl--Barbara Suss Silliest Boy—James Arnold Greatest Girl Dreamer--Elsie Gardner Greatest Boy Dreamer—Edward Schaperjohn Senior Class Genius, Boy—Thomas Cwiakala Senior Class Genius, Girl--June Boshart Most Popular Girl--Muriel Suss Most Popular Boy--Earl Hansen Prettiest Girl--Muriel Suss Handsomest Boy--Edward Palmer 13 14 15 18 19 Student Council The Student Council is made up of twelve students. 12th Grade--Muriel Suss, Charles Sherman 11th Grade--Donna Faber, Milton Lendl 10th Grade--Anna Manas, Nelson Reichel 9th Grade--Joan Landry, Ross Christy 8th Grade--Dorthey Sanders, William Maraskuss 7th Grade--Douglas Sherman, James Purvee President is Muriel Suss; Vice-President, Donna Faber; Secretary, Anna Manas, and Treasurer, Nelson Reichel. They took over editing “The Galwaynian which was published quarterly during the year. With Nelson Reichel as editor and Sherry Stockheim as his assistant, reporters Danny Grezbien, A liles Landry, Clark Reichel, Helen Wilcox and Lois Purvee were kept busy. Dick Mansfield and Ed Palmer kept the sports news up-to-date, while Barbara Suss and Anna Manas kept the gossip buzzing. The Student Council members of the Sophomore Class are Nelson Reichel and Anna Manas. Junior News . . . Donald Wolfe , . . Milton Lendl Audrey Kronsbein . Margaret Hatala Student Council Members are: Donna Faber and Milton Lendl. Class officials of the Junior Class are: President............................. Vice-President. ..................... Secretary.............................. T reasurer............................ The Junior Class has been active in getting money for their Senior Trip next year. They have put on roller skating parties, dances and have been selling refreshments at the home basketball games. The major project of the Junior Class has been the making of the yearbook. Next year the Juniors plan to have bigger and better projects than they have had this year. Senior News Class officials of the Senior Class are: President......................................................Bud Hansen Vice-President..............................................Ronnie Edwards Secretary and Treasurer........................................Eina Conde Student Council members are: Muriel Suss and Charles Sherman. Ever since September the Seniors anticipated their trip to Washington. Talk of monuments, hotels and restaurants has filled the air daily. But all the while they talked, they worked. Stationery, children’s books, Christmas cards and wrappings were sold. 21 Can U Imagine The pupils in G. C. S. not knowing how to waltz? There being any pep rallies before games? Two girls wanting to be missing from the Woestina basketball games? Juniors not putting on any activities? G. C. S. students not liking the Tennessee Waltz? B. A. Class without students getting kicked out? The Sophomores beating the Juniors in History averages? Christmas parties without mistletoe ? Lillian and Audrey without each other? The Junior Cl ss being quiet at their class meetings? Students without attending Roller Skating Parties? Everyone in G. C. S. co-operating with each other for a change. G. C. S. with boys wearing suits and girls dressing up? Galway Central without Bryan Simmons ? Girls without basketball jackets? A certain girl not being on the honor roll? Sixth period being quiet? Movies without potato chips and candy? American History without a certain person not going to sleep? Girls’ gym class without basketball? A certain remark of “Perth” said at the Minstrel Show? Students not knowing everybody else’s business? The happy faces of the Juniors as they received their “Cadet class rings? Mert and Bob not getting married someday? G. C. S. students acting like grown-ups for a change? Why C. S. gets stuck and has flat tires on back roads? Galway students without “sneakers”? B. A. class being quiet? Galway finally being recognized in the league? (OH, BOY!) English classes without seeing pictures like Henry IV and Macbeth? What we students would do if Coach wasn’t around to take us to West Point, Troy or other places ? Charles Q. ever growing eyelashes? Two certain girls who were sitting in the front row at the Minstrel Show not liking the show --especially the Master of Ceremonies? Mr. Simmons not wearing loud socks and ties? Ruth A. without her laugh? A certain girl getting out of the habit of trying to have her own way? CAN U IMAGINE ???????????????????????? II 24 Chorus The chorus this year has a membership of fifty high school boys and girls. The officers are: Bertha Shoutis, President; Donna Faber, Vice-President; James Mansfield, Secretary and Ruth Armer, Treasurer. The chorus participated in the Christmas program with “White Christmas and The Sleigh . Band The band this year consists of eight members. Trumpet: Barbara Snyder; Clarinets: Tom Cwiakala, Audrey Kronsbein, Judy Morehouse and Joan Landry; Drums: Chuck Sherman; Bells: Bertha Shoutis; Piano: Karen Ruud. The band has played at Christmas program, a few assemblies, P. T. A., and the Spring Concert. The director is Mr. Ralph Mottola. Junior Band The Junior Band consists of members who have just started playing instruments. There are now twelve members. Trumpets: Nancy Filkins, Jim Hall, Dan Verklas, Leon Pajak; Clarinets: Paul Kronsbein, Dorothy Sanders, Sherry Stockheim, Lilly Palmateer; Mellophone: Joe Ha tala; Drums: Miles Landry; Bells: Anna Manas; Piano: Ann Link. The Junior Band played three numbers at the Spring Concert. Spring Concert The Spring Concert was held May 4th. The chorus did four pieces, two of which were from the movie Oklahoma . Bluebird of Happiness was among the four numbers sung by the sextet. The Girls Glee sang two numbers, one of which was the lively Tzana Tzana . The Junior Glee Club also sang two numbers. Three spring pieces were played by the band. The Junior Band also took part in the concert, which was their first performance in public. Prom Queen Last year the present Senior Class had their Prom on June 9, 1950. They elected a Prom Queen that year for the first time. The Queen was Bertha Shoutis. She sat oiva throne and was crowned by Robert Stangle. The crown was a variety of different flowers. Bertha wore an aqua waffle pique gown and looked very lovely. Her escort was Thomas Mansfield. We hope we’ll have a queen as pretty as Bertha every year. 25 Hay rides This year we had three hayrides. Two were sponsored by the Juniors and one by the Seniors. The first hayride ran into a little trouble. It started raining and then to top it all off the wagon broke down. Later, however, everyone enjoyed themselves eating and dancing. The next hayride was more enjoyable because it was held on Friday, the 13th of November. A Superstition Party was held after the hayride. Many games were played and there was cider, donuts and hot dogs for all. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed themselves. Roller Skating Party A new form of entertainment was introduced this year — roller skating. The roller skating parties were given by the Junior and Senior Classes. At these parties we were gratefully chaperoned by the Mealys, the Lampes, the Browns and the Faheys. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was an opportunity for everyone to learn to skate. Spaghetti Supper The Senior Class held a Spaghetti Supper at the high school on January 25. The supper was cooked by Mrs. Art Gerardi and Mrs. Sam Gerardi. The Senior girls waited on the many people who attended the supper. This project turned out quite successfully and netted a good profit for the Seniors. West Point Trip On Saturday, November 11, 1950, at 7:15 a.m., forty students from Galway Central School started out on an all-day trip to West Point to watch the Army-New Mexico football game. We were chaperoned by Coach Mealy and Gordon Link. Cecil Anibal drove the bus. Around noon time we stopped on Storm King Highway to eat lunch, shortly after which we arrived at the Academy. Before the game started the spectators witnessed a full dress parade of the cadets. Around 2:00 p.m. the game started and it was Army’s game all the way. The final score was Army 51, New Mexico 0. Immediately after the final whistle blew, the Galway students started for home. We arrived at 9:00, tired but happy. It was an enjoyable trip and we all hope there will be more like it. 26 P. T. A. The Parent-Teacher Association of the Galway Central School has met the first Wednesday of each month from October through May. The Program Committee has as its theme for the year: Building a Deeper School Spirit and as its aim: To create a spirit of school citizenship in parents, children and teachers. Each meeting has been integrated into this theme. The Ways and Means Committee has sponsored a series of Pie Parties, well attended and financially successful. The annual Harvest Auction was also a successful project. The Membership Committee has reported a total of more than one hundred twenty members of which about 37% are fathers of children in school. Our Hospitality Committee helped end each meeting with a friendly chat over a cup of coffee or cocoa. The Student Loan Committee is anxious to have the parents of boys and girls graduating from high school, know that a loan may be made available to a graduate wishing some assistance in continuing his education or training, whether it be in a course of a few months or four years of college. The Executive Committee hopes that the large number of parents and teachers who have continued to attend the meetings, have put themselves forward and made new friends among the people of the whole central district. May we all keep in mind that one of the objects of the Parent-Teacher Association is: To bring into closer relation the home and school that parents and teachers may co-operate intelligently in the training of the child. 27 Galway Hit Parade Elsie “Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree Gardner Ruth “All My Dove Armer Lillian “He Wears A Pair of Silver Wings Yonych Audrey “Tennessee Waltz Kronsbein June “Mocking Bird Hill Wood Evelyn “My Ideal Harvey Charles “For Me and My Gal Quinlan Bryan “You Must Remember This Simmons Marion “It Can't Be Wrong Fahey Donald “I'll Capture Your Heart Mealy Eileen “Sweet and Lovely Lampe Michel “Why Can't You Do Right Griffin Margaret “Small Time Girl with Big Town Dreams Hatala Jane “Sooner or Later Young Muriel “No One But You Suss June “Handsome Stranger Boshart Karen “Grasshopper Heart Ruud Ronald “Bring On The Girls Edwards Charles “It's Three O’clock In The Morning Sherman Stacia “Sweethearts or Strangers Walkowicz Barbara “Let's Dance Snyder Earl “He's A Devil In His Own Home Town Hansen.
