CLASS HISTORY Once more we shall follow the course of the Good Ship, Education, which has been in dry dock since 1949. The gang plank was lowered at pier 9, August 20, 1953, and 25 passengers boarded ship and registered in the log book. Captain of the vessel was J. Vernon Zeig. Mrs. Beulah Goldsberry served as ship navigator and lst and 2nd mates were Jim Couk and Bon Lynas, with Ronnie Hosier serving as Treasurer and Donnie Hosier serving as Secretary. Franjean Cordon kept the ships diary. Special happenings on our maiden voyage were the Halloween Carnival and Sweet- heart Ball with Vickie Carden representing our ship at both events. All of the girls were welcomed into the Sunshine Society. During the voyage we lost four of our fellow passengers. Norma Rush dropped off at Washington Twp. and Betty Atkinson at Bunker Hill. Ronnie Jarvis went to the port of Tipton Twp. and Albert Dempsey walked the plank. Having completed our maiden voyage we steamed into port for a much needed rest. The gang plank was lowered at pier 10 on August 26, 1954, in preparation of another voyage. Dean Gish boarded ship to join in on this trip. Donnie Hosier did not board ship. J. Vernon Zeig still served as Captain and Beulah Goldsberry, with an assistant in the pilot house, Virgil Hershberger, served as navigators. Members of the crew were Phyllis Day, President: Ron Lynas, Vice Presidentg Charlotte Merrell, Secretaryg Franjean Cordon, Treasurer: and Lillie Mae Armstrong taking charge of recording the happenings. We again had the Halloween Carnival and Sweetheart Ball with Lillie Mae Arm- strong represeiiting our ship. We also initiated the green freshman, just starting out on their journey. Ronnie Hosier and Dean Gish departed from our company during the voyage. As we steamed into pier 10, we had 21 passengers disembarking for a three months summer vacation. On August 25, 1955, as the 22 passengers boarded ship fNancy Butcher joining us, coming from Kokomo! we were greeted by a new Captain, Raymond J. Trobaugh. Navigators were Mrs. Beulah Coldsberry and Mrs. Arthur Pullen. Crew members were Ronnie Lynas. Presidentg Franjean Gordon, Vice Presidentg Phyllis Day, Secretary: Nancy Butcher, Treasurer, and Lillie Mae Armstrong and Jim Couk as business managers. Sharon Rose recorded our special events. During the course of the voyage Sharon Rose fell overboard and was rescued from the liriny deep by the Good Ship, Matrimony. Nancy Butcher was elected Queen of the Halloween Carnival and Franjean Cordon served in the Queens court for the Sweetheart Ball. Then in the ships theater a special play took place, Dotty and Daffyn. We entered port and steamed up to pier 11. We were all looking forward to that last vacation, before our final year as SENIORS. 1. l. 1.- m.
