She is powered by four 25,000 horsepower engines which are en- tirely independent of each other, They can be run separately or together, one or all four, or any combination in between, GALVESTON's evaporators distill 64,000 gallons of fresh water a day. She consumes 1,016,000 gallons offuel in atypi- cal month, A typical day's menu consists of 180 dozen eggs, 500 pounds of potatoes, 60 gallons of soup, 12 gallons of gravy, 460 pounds of roast beef, 225 chickens, and 350 pounds of hamburger.
